PLAYOFFS
Semi Finals
August 16:
7 PM: Banner Bar And Grill (3) vs. BOHICA (2)
An undermanned BOHICA squad (missing 3 starters) squared off with Banner Bar (also missing top scorer Sam Fanfan) in the first semi final. League MVP Brian Vayda imposed his will early with mid range jumpers and 3's as BOHICA got out to as much as a 8 point lead in the first half. Every time BOHICA would extend however Banner would answer. With Rich Heller and Eve St Cyr getting a lot of their offense on putbacks. Brian Collins- the forgotten man all year for Banner came out firing midway through the first and into the second and ended up leading all scorers with 24. For BOHICA Joey McCann and role player extraordinare Scotty Felper got their hands on every loose ball and McCann converted for 19 points on sweeping takes and backcuts. Vayda lead BOHICA with 20. The margin was 10 dow the stretch when BOHICA's inability to hit free throws became evident but they held on for the 10 point W.
Final: BOHICA 60, Banner Bar 50
8 PM: 508 Athletics (5) vs. Rusty Aries (1)
Have to give big props to Cinderella. Playing without 3 players and only 5 in uniform 508 Athletics pushed Rusty Aries to the brink in the 8 PM game behind Rob Elliot's 20 points. There was just too much Alex Curry on the other end though as he went for 20 for the Aries squad. Josh Dunton played more of a distributor role and got his teammates involved as well as Billy Monaco knocking down mid range jumpers. Rusty Aries brings it's undefeated record to the Championship where they will face 1 loss squad BOHICA for the second BVBL finals. Large props to 508 Orange for being a team completely thrown together by the league and making a deep deep run into the playoffs.
Final: Rusty Aries 49, 508 Athletics Orange 43
Quarter Finals
August 9:
508 Orange 64, D & E Painting 61
In what can only be called an upset: 508 Orange outlasted D & E Painting by hitting huge shots down the stretch. D & E jumped out early dialing long distance early and often. Mike Keefe (17 points, 15 from 3) lead the way from downtown for D & E but Brian Grady, Dave Farrer and Cody Brunner also knocked in a bunch from downtown. The story for 508 was balance. Rob Elliot had 21 to lead the way but they got huge offensive contributions inside from Kevin Van Slette (13) and John Young (13) and outside from TJ Dolliver (11). D & E concludes their season at 5-3 and as always conducted themselves with class. 508 Orange (4-4) winners of 4 straight advance to the semi finals next Sunday at 8 PM.
Rusty Aries 48, Pregamers 44
Raheem Lewis' 13 as well as MVP Josh Dunton's 11 helped pace Rusty Aries to a nip and tuck win over the always gritty Pregamers. The Pregamers got heady floor play from Keenan Burke-Pitts (10) and offense from Bretty Corey (12) but were 1 or 2 plays short of the upset. Rusty Aries despite being short handed weathered the storm and took the W to advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday versus the 508 Orange club at 8 PM. Pregamers end their season 3-6
BOHICA 74, Canoe Club 46
BOHICA caught a break early with injuries to Karl Sattlemair and Brian Bacon keeping them out of the lineup. Jack Mahoney would not go quietly however dropping in 17 for the Club. He did the bulk of his scoring in the first half keeping his team in the game early. BOHICA got tremendous balance with 4 players in double figures lead by Justin Aldrich's 17 but also getting contributions from Jordan "The Silent Assassin" Vander Baan with 13, Joey McCann with 12 and Anthony "Old Man River" Leonelli with 11. BOHICA advances to the semis where they will play the 7 PM game. Canoe Club concludes their season with the best team name in the league.
Banner Bar 77, 508 Grey 42
Midnight for Cinderella as Banner Bar cruises to an easy quarterfinal win. Doug Hill lead the way with 33, while Rich Heller was beastly inside with 17. Brian Collins had a solid floor game and added 11 while Eve St Cyr had 10. For 508 Grey Andrew Calzone (10) and Kevin Salvaggio (10) paced them from the outside. Canoe Club 48, Red Raiders 38
