Despite 27 from Corey Prior The Cute Boys fell in their season finale to the surging New England Nutrition team. Greg Walker added 13 for the losers. New England Nutrition was paced by 16 from Rob Scarpato and 13 from Terrell Newton, both teams will garner high seeds in the upcoming playoffs.
Wet Bandits 56, BOHICA 53
Despite the absence of former league MVP Dave Douliette the Wet Bandits pulled the upset over the first place BOHICA squad. Joe Laroche lead the Bandits with 13 while Dan Laroche added 11. BOHICA was paced with 22 from Ryan Cain, both teams will surely be heard from in the playoffs.
Flying Rhino 53, 508 Athletics 50
John Genkos (14) and Eddie Capstick (12) lead Flying Rhino to a victory as they held off a late rally from 508 Athletics. 508 was paced by the Endicott Gulls backcourt of John Henault (18 points) and Bennett Knowlton (15 points).
Birdmen 63, Furry Lobster Claws 56
Matt Harrington posted 18 points in defeat as the Birdmen behind 20 from Sam Fanfan and 19 from Jay Snow won their regular season finale. Niko Bryant added 14 for the winners as well as his usual stellar defense.
Stopline Pizza 59, 5 Guys One Hoop 58
Stopline posts their 4th straight win behind 15 from Pat Dineen and 15 from Evan Prince. Ryan Hayes also chipped in 10. Doug Roberge handled the scoring for 5 Guys One Hoop with 26 points.

The Geeks salvaged a split on the day behind Brian Grady (11) from outside and Justin Lewis (12) from inside. The Thunder were paced by 25 from Cody Stone

Luke Brownell (14 points) and Christian Horton (13 points) paced the FSU club as they cemented themselves as the 7th seed. The Blazers were lead in defeat by Rob Elliot with 17 points.
DJF Painting 49, Whitewater 43
Barrett Hanlon (19 points) lead DJF Painting to clinch the #1 seed in the West with their victory over Whitewater. Whitewater was lead by an explosion from Matt Sefton who had 23 points (15 in the first half).

The Amigos short-lived winning streak came to an end despite a 17 point performance from Dan Bessa and an ill euro step from Eddie Suarez. Stopline scored early and often lead by Evan Prince with 21 points, Pat Dineen with 15, Tyler Frasca with 15 and 13 from Ryan Hayes. The Pizza gang will conclude the regular season with a double header next week against 5 Guys One Hoop and Geeks N Sneaks. The Amigos will face Sutton Hybrid in their final game of the year.
The Cute Boys 51, Geeks N Sneaks 44
Despite 14 from Nick Brown and 10 from Justin Lewis- The Geeks N Sneaks fell to the Cute Boys in the 2PM Game. Corey Prior paced The Cute Boys with 20, while Greg Walker tossed in 9. Geeks N Sneaks will have a twinbill next week against Stopline Pizza and The Thunder. While The Cute Boys will play New England Nutrition.
5 Guys One Hoop 66, Sutton Hybrid 47
Doug Roberge tossed in 20, while Tim Fitzgerald added 14 mostly downtown as 5 Guys One Hoop returned to the win column, they will face Stopline Pizza next week. The Hybrid will take on the Anaheim Amigos.
Birdmen 57, Wet Bandits 47
Niko Bryant (15 points) lead the Birdmen to victory over The Wet Bandits. He was aided by 9 points from Sam Fanfan and 8 from Jeremy Bridge. The Bandits were paced by Joe Laroche with 17 and Dan Laroche with 11. The Bandits will conclude their season against BOHICA next week, while The Birdmen will finish up against the Furry Lobster Claws.
New England Nutrition 60, Whitewater 57 (OT)
New England Nutrition handed Whitewater it's first loss of the season in a thrilling overtime game. The Nutrition Crew was lead by Lloyd Kennedy with 16 and Tony Berrecil with 9. Whitewater's always balanced attack was lead by Sam Musler with 13 and Matt Gustas with 12. John Macs (11 points) had a look at a 3 at the buzzer but it fell short and forced a 4-way first place tie heading into the last week of Western Conference play. New England Nutrition will play The Cute Boys, while Whitewater will tangle with DJF Painting.
BOHICA 97, 508 Athletics 57
BOHICA is rounding into form! In a sweltering Douglas Municipal Center the BOHICA boys tossed in 97 in an offensive onslaught. Derek Retos lead the way with 44 tying the league record for single game scoring (it should be noted that Dave Douliette did score his 44 outdoors). Ryan Cain chipped in 20 and Joey McCann added 16 as BOHICA improved to 5-0. 508 Athletics' bright spot was Zach Adams with 14 points. They will face Flying Rhino next week.
Flying Rhino 64, Blazers 58
The hot shooting of Rob Elliot (20 points) and Jay McKinney (18 points) almost carried the day for the Blazers, but the Flyin Rhino squad answered every run with one of their own! John Genkos had 26 for The Rhino and Eddie Capstick chipped in a cool 20. Rhino will take on 508 next week while The Blazers will see FSU.
BOHICA 81, Blazers 52
The completion of a rain interrupted game from a few weeks back. When the rains came BOHICA was up 49-40 with 10:17 to go. The final 10:17 were played today with BOHICA taking this 10 minutes by a score of 32-12. Ryan Cain had 31 points to pace BOHICA, while Derek Retos added 13 (all in the completion) BOHICA will conclude their regular season against The Wet Bandits next week.
DJF Painting 66, Thunder 50
DJF Painting returned to their winning ways behind 18 from Barrett Hanlon and 19 from Dave Farrer who turned the wayback machine back to 2008! Steve Dellarovere chipped in 10. Ben Freedland scored 17 for the Thunder who will conclude their season next week vs Geeks N Sneaks. DJF will play Whitewater in a game with titanic playoff implications.
Furry Lobster Claws 67, FSU 61
The Furry Lobster Claws lead by the 3 headed attack of Wild Bill Michalski (14), Matt Harrington (15) and Pete Richer (14) held off a FSU team comprised almost entirerly of impostors. FSU will play The Blazers next week. The Claws will play the Birdmen.
West Player of the Week: Dave Farrer, DJF Painting. 19 points for the 2008 League MVP as DJF slid into a first place 4-way tie!
East Player of the Week: Derek Retos, BOHICA. 44 in his full game and 13 in 10 minutes in his second in 2 wins. Pretty ridiculous day for the kid.

Dan Bessa (18 points) hit a 3 to force overtime as the Amigos post their first victory in the BVBL. Justin McCann added 10 in the victory. The Thunder were paced by Deco Anderson with 14.
Stopline Pizza 70, DJF Painting 58
Jack Mahoney (15 points) and Barrett Hanlon (14 points) put up great resistance, but Stopeline Pizza behind the shooting of Ryan Hill (26 points) and Tyler Frasca (20) notched the victory.
New England Nutrition 57, Suttom Hybrid 23
New England Nutrition utilized a balanced attack spearheaded by Rob Scarpato with 9 points and Garrett Harden with 8. The Hybrid's were paced by Little Zach Brogie who lead all scorers with 10.
The Cute Boys 58, 5 Guys One Hoop 57
Corey Prior (21 points) lead the Cute Boys to an OT victory over 5 Guys One Hoop. Greg Walker posted 15 for the winners. Joe Regan (21) lead the 5 Guys One Hoop squad and Ryan Tuscher chipped in 9.

Tremendous game down at the lake. BOHICA paced by the passing of Jim Donnelly hung in with a surging Flying Rhino team lead by Eddie Capstick with 17 and John Genkos with 16. Ryan Cain (18 points) knocked down a 3 with time expiring to keep BOHICA undefeated.

Niko Bryant (20 points) and Jay Snow (10) paced the Birdmen in a victory. Casey Hippert with 21 helped keep the Blazers close and Zach Valliere chipped in 14.
508 Athletics 62, FSU 57
John Henault (27 points) and Bennett Knowlton with 9 helped 508 Athletics to their first victory. FSU was paced by Luke Brownell who scored 34 points in a losing effort (the league's high so far this year).
Whitewater 38, Geeks N Sneaks 30
Sam Musler (14 points) and Whitewater remained undefeated. Matt Sefton chipped in 11. Steve Dorsey tossed in 11 for the Geeks N Sneaks.

Greg Harris (16 points) and Matt Sefton (14) lead Whitewater to victory in the scorching hot 1 PM game. The Amigos were lead by international man of mystery Dan Bessa with 13 and by the heady floor play of officer Brian Collins. The (4-0) Whitewater squad will take on Geeks N Sneaks next week, while the (0-4) Amigos will host The Thunder.
FSU 55, Birdmen 48
A very depleted Birdmen squad hung in behind ths coring of Jay Snow (20 points) and Sam Fanfan (16 points). However FSU was able to post their first win of the season behind the scoring of Christian Horton (21 points) and Luke Brownell with (15). FSU is now 1-3 and will take on 508 Athletics next week, while The Birdmen stand at 1-3 and will face The Blazers.
Wet Bandits 65, 508 Athletics 51
The Wet Bandits ironically opened up the indoor slate at 5, becoming the Non Wet Bandits when the rains came. Dave Douiliette posted 20 points in the win, while BVBL mainstay but new bandit Justin Aldrich had 11 and Joe Laroche kicked in 13. The 508 club was lead by the season debut of John Henault with 17 points and Endicott buddy Bennett Knowlton chipped in 14. 508 (1-3) Will face FSU next week, while the Wet Bandits (3-1) will play the Furry Lobster Claws.
Flying Rhino 100, Furry Lobster Claws 84
Lots of defense in this one John Genkos lead the charge for Flying Rhino with 26 points, while Ben Landers added 17 and Jared Palmerino chipped in 22. The 'Claws were lead by Bevo Francis with 30 points including an off balance 32 footer that really had to be seen to be explained in any way. Justin Offerman added 11. The 'Claws at 1-3 will face the Bandits next week, while Rhino will face BOHICA.
DJF Painting 56, Sutton Hybrid 46
Hybrid hung though behind 14 points from Frank Brogie and 10 from Zach Brogie but the flying Brogie boys could not hold off DJF painting. Barrett Hanlon had 19 for DJF, while Jack Mahoney dropped 15 in the victory. The ever improving Hybrid squad will take on New England Nutrition next week, while undefeated DJF will tangle with Stopline Pizza.
New England Nutrition 76, 5 Guys One Hoop 69
New England Nutrition utilized supreme balance and unselfishness to post their 3rd victory on the young season. Tony Berrecil had 15 in the win, while Terrell Newton (14), Lloyd Kennedy (16), Tom Casey (11) all found their way into double figures. Bob Chalmers chipped in 9 as did Garrett Harden. 5 Guys were paced by Doug Roberge with 23 and Nick Burnett with 19. 5 Guys will see the Cute Boys next week, while New England Nutrition will face Sutton Hyrbid.

Game of the night, no question. The young buck Thunder squad hung right in behind the shooting of Cody Stone (22 points) the athleticism of Tyler Barry (14 points) and the inside presence of Deco Anderson (11 points). The Cute Boys were able to hold it off with the scoring Corey Pryor (21 points), Greg Walker (15), and Mike Perrault (14). The Thunder will face the Amigos next week, while The Cute Boys will play 5 Guys One Hoop
East Player of The Week: Christian Horton, FSU. 21 points in a back and forth game nets the upcoming rookie the POTW honors.
West Player of The Week: Cody Stone, Thunder. Single handedly kept his team in a great game with his shotmaking and drives to the rim. The rare POTW from a losing team.

DJF Painting 51, Amigos 36
Despite the early hot shooting of Eddie Suarez (9 points) the Amigos fell to their 3rd straight loss on the young season. Jesse Dewitt chipped in 8 in the loss while Justin McCann added 8. DJF was lead by Jason Beard with 10 points and Mike Bird who chipped in 9. The undefeated DJF team will tackle Sutton Hybrid next week. While the (0-3) Amigos will host Whitewater.
The Cute Boys 75, Sutton Hybrid 46
Corey Prior (27 points) and Mike Perrault (18 points) lead the scoring charge for the Cute Boys who improved their record to 2-1. Greg Walker added 11 in the victory. Sutton Hybrid was paced by Ben Bickford with 11. Sutton will take on DJF next week, while The Cute Boys will tussle with The Thunder.
Whitewater 60, 5 Guys One Hoop 55 (OT)
In an overtime thriller Whitewater kept it's record perfect behind the timely post play of Matt Seften (15) and the shooting of John Macs (12 points). 5 Guys One Hoop were paced by Cody Fournier with 14 points in the defeat. They will try to rebound next week against New England Nutrition while Whitewater and the Amigos will play.
Stopline Pizza 74, Thunder 58
Stopline Pizza showed remarkable balance with 5 players in double figures. Evan Prince lead the way with 15 while Tim Juitt also tallied 15. Matt Droney chipped in 10 along with a number of assistants while Ryan Hayes added 10 of his own. John Powell also tossed in 12 for the Pizza Gang. Who at 1-2 will take on Geeks N Sneaks next week. The Thunder were paced by Ben Freeland with 18 and Deco Anderson with 16. The Thunder will play The Cute Boys next week.
Blazers 68, Furry Lobster Claws 64 (OT)
Despite a borderline heroic 26 points from Matt Harrington, the Furry Lobster Claws fell to The Blazers. Canaan Severin chipped in 11 for the Claws while Kenny Harington and Pete Richer both tall;ied 10. The Blazers were lead by Rob Elliot (23 points) and Casey Hippert (16 points) Zach Valliere tallied 11 as well. The Blazers will face BOHICA next week in a battle of unbeatens while the FLCs will face Flying Rhino.
BOHICA 61, FSU 37
A 4 point game at the half. BOHICA took control in the second half behind the slashing of Ryan Cain (18) and the hot shooting of Mike Balderelli (11). Ryan Birrell and old standby Joey McCann each added 10. FSU was paced by Christian Horton (19 points). FSU will face the Birdmen nexy week while BOHICA will meet the Blazers.
Birdmen 46, 508 Athletics 38
A very depleted 508 Athletics team hung in with The Birdmen. However Sam Fanfan (20 points) was able to close it out down the stretch to get The Birdmen in the win column. Kevin Salvaggio paced 508 with 9 points while Matt Kneece chipped in 8. 508 will face The Wet Bandits next week while The Birdmen will play FSU.
Wet Bandits 57, Flying Rhino 47
A game of runs. Flying Rhino cut a 19 point lead to 2 late in the second half before The Wet Bandits held on for the W. Wet Bandits were lead by former BVBL MVP Dave Douiliette with 17 while Derek Johnson added 13. Flying Rhino was paced by the slashing game of Eddie Capstick (22 points) and the shooting of John Genkos (14 points). Flying Rhino (2-1) will return to action next week against The Furry Lobster Claws while The Wet Bandits (2-1) will play 508 Athletics.

Geeks N Sneaks 62, Anaheim/Arabian Amigos 34
A balanced Geeks attack as they cruised to victory in the 1 PM game. The inside scoring of Henry Morris (12 points) coupled with the shooting of Steve Dorsey (11 points) and the slashing of Nick Brown (10 points) gave the Geeks a comfortable lead in this one. The Amigos were paced by Chris Rieffarth with 10 points and the solid floor play of Eddie Suarez. Geeks improve to 1-1 and will face NE Nutrition next week, while The Amigos (0-2) will chase their first victory against DJF Painting.
Blazers 42, Wet Bandits 35
Total rockfight. Two good teams tied at 18 at the half is just something that happens sometimes in the BVBL. The Blazers made some plays down the stretch and improved to 2-0. The scoring of Rob Elliot (13) and Casey Hippert (10) keyed the victory. The bandits were lead by 11 from Joe Laroche. The (2-0) Blazers will face the Furry Lobster Claws next week. The Thunder's Mike Barry buried a 3 pointer with 6 seconds left to give them the lead at 32-31 and they held on. Deco Anderson had 10 for the Thunder. 5 Guys One Hoop were keyed by 8 from Doug Roberge and 7 from Nick Burnett. The (2-0) Thunder will face Stopline Pizza next week, while 5 Guys One Hoop will take their 1-1 record to face Whitewater.

Barrett Hanlon (19 points) and Cory Brunner (12) keyed the offense for DJF Painting as they won their second game of the young season. NEN was paced by Terrell Newton with 9 points and Colin Carr and George Jordan who added 6 each. NEN will face the Geeks N Sneaks next week in a battle of 1 loss squads, while DJF painting will take their 2-0 record to face The Amigos.

Despite 14 from Pat Dineen and 11 from Evan Prince Stopline Pizza fell to The Cute Boys 68-53. The Cute Boys who run their record to 1-1 got scoring contributions from Cory Prior with 28 points and Mike Perrault with 14. The Cute Boys will return to action next week against Sutton Hybrid, while Stopline will dance with The Thunder.
Whitewater 31, Sutton Hybrid 21
Whitewater runs it's record to 2-0 in their inaugural BVBL season. Matt Gustus paced the Water squad with 17 while Sam Musler kicked in 6. Sutton Hyrbid were paced by Gordie Smith who has a great hockey name but can score it kicking in 10 points. The Hybrid will face The Cute Boys next week as they chase their first win, while Whitewater will face 5 Guys One Hoop.
BOHICA 64, Birdmen 46
Jay Snow carried the weight offensively for the Birdmen dropping 16 points. The Birdmen drop to 0-2 on the young season and will face 508 Athletics next week. BOHICA was paced by old standby Ryan Cain with 17 points, while rookies Colin Halpin and Ryan Birrell added 15 and 12 respectively. BOHICA (2-0) will return to action next week against FSU.
Furry Lobster Claws 68, 508 Athletics 53
It was raining 3 balls at Memorial Park. The Furry Lobster Claws dialed long distance early and often and notched their first BVBL victory. Ken Harrington lead all scorers with 18 points, while Chad Labove added 12 (all from downtown) and Matt and Chris Harrington had 11 each. Pete Richer chipped in 10 in a stunningly balanced attack. 508 was paced by Kevin Salvaggio with 17 points and 16 from Matt Kneece. The 1-1 Claws will face The Blazers next week, while the 0-2 508 Athletics team will face the Birdmen in a something has to give matchup of winless squads.
Flying Rhino 58, FSU 56
Game of the night for sure. A back and forth battle between 2 veteran squads ended up with Flying Rhino notching their 2nd win in as many 9 PM games. Eddie Capstick lead the way with 20, while Ben Landers chipped in 17 and John Genkos 16 (including 2 free throws with 4.8 seconds left that provided the winning margin. The Rhinos (2-0) will take on The Wet Bandits next week. FSU was paced by Luke Brownell with 21 points, they also got 13 each from the Grafton based duo of Chris Resker and John Sneidker. FSU will play BOHICA next week.
West Co Players of the Week: Cory Prior, The Cute Boys Had 28 (the season high to date in the BVBL) in their victory over Stopline. Barrett Hanlon, DJF Painting Lead DJF to their second victory with 19 points.
East Player of the Week: Eddie Capstick, Flying Rhino 20 points in a 2 point victory to run the ballclub to 2-0. Solid days work for Eddie.

Doug Roberge (20 points) and Nick Burnett (10 points) lead the charge offensively as the 5 Guys One Hoop club posted their first win on the young season. Justin McCann (14 points) and Chris Reifarth (10 points) carried the Amigos in their first defeat.
Whitewater 56, The Cute Boys 50
Welcome to the league Whitewater! Despite having difficulty reading their schedule Whitewater posted a 56-50 victory in their inaugural game. Matt Gustas lead the way offensively with 22 points and Alex Harris chipped in 15 as the Whitewater held off The Cute Boys. The Boys were lead by Mike Perrault (16) and Corey Prior (16) outside and Greg Walker (10) inside.
Blazers 69, 508 Athletics 39
A depleted 508 Athletics hung in behind 17 from Andrew Calzone, but The Blazers had too much firepower. Rob Elliot (23 points) and Zach Valliere (12 points) lead the charge but they were also lifted by rookie Casey Hippert (10 points) in the victory.
DJF Painting 46, Geeks N Sneaks 31
The new look DJF painting cruised to a 46-31 victory behind rookie Barrett Hanlon who posted 21 points in his BVBL debut. Cory Brunner chipped in 9 for the victors. Geeks N Sneaks utilized a balanced attack with Nick Brown (9 points) and Henry Morris (8 points) leading the way.
New England Nutrition 58, Stopline Pizza 34
Rob Scarpato (16 points) and Tom Casey (12 points) were the offensive standouts, while Terrell Newton (10 points) controlled the action for NE Nutrition in their inaugural BVBL game. Stopline Pizza was paced by Tyler Frasca with 12 points.

Deco Anderson's 20 points were the difference in this one as the Thunder cruised to their first BVBL victory. Mikey James chipped in 15 in the victory for the Thunder. Sutton Bryd was paced by Harry Valentges with 9 points.
Wet Bandits 50, FSU 48
Great back and forth battle between 2 teams on the rise. Joe Laroche (11 ponts), Derek Johnson (10 points) and Jakyri Simpson (9 points) lead the Bandits balanced attack, while Luke Brownell (11 points), Christian Horton (9 points) and Cliff Celestin (8 points) carried FSU offensively. A furious FSU comeback cut an 11 point lead in less than a minute to a 1 possession game.
BOHICA 85, Furry Lobster Claws 41
A very depleted Furry Lobster Claw squad was paced by Luke Bessa with 15 points. BOHICA got good offense from newcomers Ryan Birrell (25 points) and Derek Retos (21 points) as well as 10 from old standby Joe McCann.
Flying Rhino 57, Birdmen 46
Despite 17 from Jay Snow and 16 from Sam Fanfan- the defending champs (playing shorthanded) dropped their opener to Flying Rhino. Team Rhino was lead by Eddie Capstick with 17 points) Jared Palmerino (17 points) and Ben Landers (18 points). Landers in particular had several backbreaking putbacks down the stretch.

2011 Champions Crowned
The Birdmen (in their third year of existence, first under their new name) raise their first championship banner in a Championship Game finally played after Hurricane Irene.
The Birdmen were able to overcome the long time league adage of "As goes Fanfan goes their team" this was not to be the case today as their leading scorer was held to 11. The unsung depth of the Birdmen carried the day lead by Playoff and Finals MVP Nikko Bryant who scored a team high 13 (most of which came in the last 2 minutes). They also got strong contributions from Jay Snow (11 points), John Dietel (7 points) and 5 each from Mike Geoffroy and Andy Maxwell. Captain Jeremy Bridge added 7 of his own. They were particularly good down the stretch scoring on their last 4 trips up the floor to close out the win.
BOHICA who had 4 players play the entire 40 minutes and a 5th Brian Vayda play the final 16 after arriving- took the lead shortly into the second half and lead by as many as 5 before The Birdmen made a strong comeback lead by Bryant's heroics and their ability to make free throws. BOHICA was paced by Ryan Cain with 26 points, Justin Aldrich with 16 and Mitch Bajema with 12. The Iron Man peformance by Cain, Bajema, Aldrich and Scott Felper was necessitated by the absence of 4 BOHICA rotation members including mainstays Joey McCann and Mike Balderelli. BOHICA Captain Anthony Leonelli was quick to discount that however. "They made plays down the stretch- that's what champions do. You can't worry about whose here or isn't here, we played the game, they made the plays, they won a title- credit to them."
The Birdmen are the 3rd champion in the league's 4 year history following BOHICA in 2008 and 2009 and Worcester West in 2010. Niko Bryant was awarded the playoff MVP as well as the Finals MVP. Special notice goes to Jeremy Bridge and Eve St Cyr who have been teammates in the league all 4 years of it's existence and cash in their first championship. The Birdmen end the year at 9-2 BOHICA falls to 10-1.

BVBL Finals
For the first time in league history the finals have been delayed by a Hurricane.

Birdmen's Sam Fanfan holds plenty of hardware as he was voted the league's regular season MVP in 2010, Rookie of the year in 2009, First Team All League in 2010 and 2009, as well as 2nd Team All League in 2011.
BOHICA's Brian Vayda was the 2009 League Co-MVP, Joey McCann of BOHICA was the league's defensive player of the year in 2011 and the playoff MVP in 2008. The Birdmen's Jay Snow and Brian Collins have also tallied All League choices in the past- while BOHICA boasts Ryan Cain, Justin Aldrich, Mike Balderelli and McCann and Vayda on various All League teams.
Four Year Men. A handful of players in this game have played in all 4 years of the league's existence. Eve St Cyr, Jeremy Bridge and Brian Collins of the Birdmen have all played 4 years in the league. While Scott Felper, Anthony Leonelli, Justin Aldrich, Brian Vayda and Joey McCann of BOHICA are 4 year guys as well.
Return To The Finals: BOHICA played in the first 2 league championships, winning both. Last year they were eliminated by D&E Painting in the semifinals
Over The Hump: The Birdmen (Formerly Known as Banner Bar) have made it to their first league finals, they lost in the quarters last year to D&E Painting, in 2009 they fell to BOHICA in the semi finals (with leading scorer Sam Fanfan missing due to injury)
Impact Rookies: The Birdmen added Niko Bryant this year who has given them great minutes and the point and on defense. BOHICA added high scoring guard Ryan Cain, point man Keenan Burke-Pitts and post presence Sam Herrick in their retooling this year.
What to watch for:
The Birdmen have been closing close games all year- BOHICA has not played many close games- if it's close, give the edge to the Birdmen.

Playoff Results/Schedule:

BOHICA 64, Worcester West 34
In a much anticipated matchup of the only champions the league has ever known. BOHICA started hot and opened up a gap that would never close on their way back to the finals. Joey McCann who is usually content to be a 3rd or 4th option for BOHCIA paced the offense with 17 points (mostly on sweeping takes to the basket) while Mike Balderelli added 14, Ryan Cain 13, Justin Aldrich 11, and Brian Vayda 9. Worcester West was paced by League MVP Dave Doulette with 14 points and Joe LaRoche with 10. BOHICA was lead defensively by Brian Vayda and Ryan Cain and held the high flying Worcester West attack to 34 points. Worcester West finishes their season at 8-2 and are one of the top organizations in the league. BOHICA improves to 10-0 and will advance to Sunday's finals.

D&E painting (playing without leading scorer Max Masucci) took a 4 point lead into the half and held an 8 point lead under 3 minutes and looked like they were headed back to the finals. However, the Birdmen utilized a full court press and the hot shooting of Mike Geoffroy to advance to their first league finals. D&E Painting were lead by the shooting of Cory Brunner with 15 points, and the crafty scoring of Will Jonnasen with 12 points on crafty takes. Dave Farrer also kicked in 12 points. The Birdmen were lead by Jay Snow with 13 and Sam Fanfan with 9 points early. Facing an 8 point deficit under 3 minutes they were able to generate a number of steals by Fanfan and Eve St Cyr. Geoffroy turned 3 of these steals into 3s and a Jay Snow leaner tied the game with a minute to go. After a some free throws gave Birdmen a 3 point lead, D&E got a look at a 3 from the corner for the tie at the buzzer but it found back rim- sending the Birdmen to the finals. D&E Painting is truly one of the class organizations in the league history and end the season 8-2, Birdmen are also 8-2 and will play for the championship on sunday.

D&E Painting 50, Sweet Sassy Molassy 40
There are a few inalienable truths in the BVBL 1. it will rain at inopportune times 2. when playing outdoors the bugs will be the size of small aircraft 3. Do not count out Jack Mahoney in the playoffs. Mahoney willed his 11th seeded Sweet Sassy Molassy team into the thick of the game yesterday with his 17 points. League MVP Dave Doulette had 14 in a quiet night for him- but Derek Johnson added 13, Joe Laroche 18 and Dan Laroche 11 to help Worcester West pull away. The Blazers however would not go quietly into the night. TJ Dolliver who usually is content to play the role of defensive specialist scored 18 points almost all in the second half and almost all from 3 to keep the Blazers in the game. Down the stretch Worcester West made free throws and pulled it out- but it was a hard fought and intense game. The defending champs are through to the semis, while Blazers end a very successful season.

In game that was a matchup of 2 of the league's best rookies and gaurds. Ryan Cain and Brennan Bennett squared off in an anticipated matchup. Although it was Bennett who lead the league in scoring and took home the ROY crown- it was Cain who got the better of the matchup today posting 29 points to Bennett's 11. Aggro held tough early on behind the shooting of Mike Perrault (12 points) and an inside hook by Greg Walker midway through the second half tied the game at 19. After that however BOHICA flipped the switch. Cain doing much of the scoring but also Brian Vayda (16 points) showing why he is one of the league's most versatile bigmen and Joey McCann (13 points) finishing in transition. In the second half the Crags were paced by the play of Tyler Bennett who dropped in 19 mostly from downtown. BOHICA is on to the semis and a much anticipated game with Worcester West (the only 2 teams to ever win a BVBL crown)- while Aggro Crags had a tremendous run for an expansion team and a good group of guys.

Never sleep on the Birdmen indoors. In a hard fought game with a few number of runs- Birdmen took command early in the second half and ground out a big quarterfinals victory over 2 seed Flying Rhino. Flying Rhino featured a balanced backcourt attack of Eddie Capstick (12), Rock Tarwoe (10) and John Genkos (11) and got a significant lift from Alex Celluci (7 points)- but overall there was too much Birdmen tonight. Sam Fanfan based the victors with 20, but he was helped by 15 from Jay Snow, 14 from Nikko Bryant and a big 9 from Jeremy Bridge. Mike Geoffrey also tossed in 8. The Birdmen advance to the semis where they will tangle with D&E Painting who knocked them out of the playoffs last year- while Flying Rhino's transformation from a middle of the pack team named Agent Zero to a top level team named Flying Rhino has been impressive.

In the first game of the day The Birdmen continued their successful play of late and started the trend of a lot of offense in the first round of the playoffs (being inside always helps). Sam Fanfan lead the way for The Birdmen with 31 points while Nikki Bryant's hot outside shooting (19 points) helped the Birdmen pull away. It was a 5 poing game at halftime, but in the second half The Birdmen outscored FBGM 46-28. Jon Snediker lead the way in defeat for FBGM with 19 points while Luke Brownell chipped in 15. FBGM concludes a solid first season in the BVBL while the Birdmen advance to the quarters.
Flying Rhino (2) 66, Woolies (15) 44
Despite 21 points from Mike O'Leary (who was shirtless for some reason for much of the game) the Woolies could not stay in the game as the hot shooting of John Genkos (22 points) and the steady play of Eddie Capstick (11 points) lead Flying Rhino to the victory. Ryan Turbide provided some inside scoring while Rock Tarwoe controlled the tempo as Flying Rhino extended an 8 point half time lead. Flying Rhino will advance to the quarters, while the Woolies will no doubt be back next year reloaded and ready for a run!
Aggro Craggs (8) 53, 508 Athletics (9) 38
The Aggro Craggs continued their stellar first season with a playoff victory over a depleted 508 Athletics team. League rookie of the year Brennan Bennett paced Aggro with 20 points while Greg Walker and Mike Perrault both chipped in 10. 508 struggled to get an offensive foothold all day while Andrew Calzone (7 points) got into the lane and played some defense. Aggro Craggs will advance to Sunday's quarterfinals in their first year of existence.
D&E Painting (3) 63, Blood Sweat and Beers (14) 43
A rematch of last week with similar results. Mike Keefe lead the way for Blood Sweat and Beers with 14 points while Anil Narwani chipped in 10 of his own. D&E were lead by the outside shooting of Cory Brunner (20 points) and the off the dribble attack of forgotten man Will Jonnasen (18 points). Dave Farrer also added 10 in the victory. D&E will advance to the quarter finals, while Blood Sweat and Beers will hopefully return next year.
Ham Sandies (16) 91, Grizzles (17) 47
Dan Bessa (25 points) and Chris Refarth (15 points) lead the Ham Sandies to the playin game victory over the Grizzlies. Drew Dunn scored 18 in the loss for the Grizzlies. The Sandies picked up their second victory of the year- despite this a few of their players declined to play in their second game of the night only an hour later, and as such the players who did not return will no longer be a part of this league in the future.

In a game that was a 4 point game with 10 minutes to go, the defending champs turned it on down the stretch to the tune of a 22-2 run that cemented the victory. League MVP Dave Doulette had 14, while Derek Johnson added 15 for Worcester West. Rusty Aries were lead by the shooting of Brian Whitten with 11 points. Dan Tessier also added 9 in defeat. Large respect to the Ham Sandies players who actually showed up for their second game. Dan Bessa had 35 points in the loss. Justin McCann also tossed in 16 points. For BOHICA Ryan Cain scored 30 points while Mitch Bajema added 20 (6 threes), Joey McCann had 18 points, while Sam Herrick chucked in 11 and Kennan Burke-Pitts 13. Anthony Leonelli had 11 in the victory as well. BOHICA is on to the quarterfinals.
Blazers 65 (4), Chargers (13) 56
Doug Roberge's 22 points tried to keep the Chargers in the game as did Cody Fournier's 16 points, but The Blazers had too much firepower in the 9 PM game. Rob Elliot had 17 points and Jay McKinny had 14. John Young added 15 in his victory. The Blazers took a 2 point halftime lead and extended in the second half. They will advance to next week's quarterfinals, while the Chargers first season comes to a close.

In a much anticipated matchup of the only champions the league has ever known. BOHICA started hot and opened up a gap that would never close on their way back to the finals. Joey McCann who is usually content to be a 3rd or 4th option for BOHCIA paced the offense with 17 points (mostly on sweeping takes to the basket) while Mike Balderelli added 14, Ryan Cain 13, Justin Aldrich 11, and Brian Vayda 9. Worcester West was paced by League MVP Dave Doulette with 14 points and Joe LaRoche with 10. BOHICA was lead defensively by Brian Vayda and Ryan Cain and held the high flying Worcester West attack to 34 points. Worcester West finishes their season at 8-2 and are one of the top organizations in the league. BOHICA improves to 10-0 and will advance to Sunday's finals.

D&E painting (playing without leading scorer Max Masucci) took a 4 point lead into the half and held an 8 point lead under 3 minutes and looked like they were headed back to the finals. However, the Birdmen utilized a full court press and the hot shooting of Mike Geoffroy to advance to their first league finals. D&E Painting were lead by the shooting of Cory Brunner with 15 points, and the crafty scoring of Will Jonnasen with 12 points on crafty takes. Dave Farrer also kicked in 12 points. The Birdmen were lead by Jay Snow with 13 and Sam Fanfan with 9 points early. Facing an 8 point deficit under 3 minutes they were able to generate a number of steals by Fanfan and Eve St Cyr. Geoffroy turned 3 of these steals into 3s and a Jay Snow leaner tied the game with a minute to go. After a some free throws gave Birdmen a 3 point lead, D&E got a look at a 3 from the corner for the tie at the buzzer but it found back rim- sending the Birdmen to the finals. D&E Painting is truly one of the class organizations in the league history and end the season 8-2, Birdmen are also 8-2 and will play for the championship on sunday.

2011 Awards
Since it's inception in 2008 the BVBL has been giving awards out at the end of the year. Although the awards exist only in Cyberspace they are still selected by the league board (who see pretty much every game) with the input of the other captains and officials. While it may be silly to get fired up about winning an award in a men's basketball league- it's also not silly at all.
