508 Athletics 68, Flying Rhino 64


Anything can happen in the BVBL. 508 Athletics came into the game with a 3-3 record and missing their 2 leading scorers in Drew Dykstra and John Henault. However they found a way to grind out a W over previously undefeated Flying Rhino. Flying Rhino was lead by Eddie Capstick with 20 points, Ryan Turbide added 14 and Andrew Punch 13 in the defeat. 508 Athletics was lead by the Medfield connection of Tyler Frasca (19 points) and Phil Designoria with 19 points, and the steady defense of Andrew Calzone and Kevin Salvaggio. Flying Rhino concludes a very successful season with a 6-1 record in their inaugural year. While 508 Athletics ends the season above .500 at 4-3. 


Blazers 67, Rusty Aries 51


With rookie sensation Corey Gomes nursing an injury and out the lineup. Rusty Aries fell to the Blazers in the 2 PM game. Andrew Groth continued a big season by throwing in 18 in defeat while Dan Tessier added 11.  The Blazers were lead by the stellar inside play of Zach Valliere who had 27 points in the victory. Jay McKinney added 19 while Rob Elliot chipped in 12.  The Blazers end the year at 6-1, while Rusty Aries are always dangerous in the playoffs and are 2-5.


Birdmen 69, Woolies 55


Under the radar is the only way to describe the season the Birdmen are having. At 5-2 they will be a team to be reckoned with in the playoffs. Sam Fanfan lead the way for the Birdmen with 29 points, while Jay Snow chipped in 13 and Mike Geoffrey added 11. The Woolies were lead by the inside play of Tim Swenson who had 16 points and the Mike O'Leary who chipped in 13 in defeat. The Woolies end the year at 1-6 heading into the playoffs.


FBGM 57, Chargers 49


FBGM are now the winners of 3 straight. Behind the shooting of Jon Snediker (23 points) and the inside out play of Luke Brownell (15 points) FBGM posted their 3rd straight victory after starting the season 0-4. The Chargers were lead in defeat by Doug Roberge with 25 points and Nick Burnett with 11. They will enter the playoffs 2-5 while FBGM will enter 3-4. 


Worcester West 71, Sweet Sassy Molassy 43


On July 12 2009 Joey McCann of Bohica dropped 40 points in a game versus the Red Raiders. This single game scoring record stood for over 2 years until yesterday when Dave Doulette of Worcester West dropped 42 in their victory. Utilizing a steady midrange game, transition finishes, and the 3 ball he had 25 at the half and was able (with some last minute force feeds) to get over the hump in the second half. Joe Laroche added 12 for Worcester West while Kevin Van Slette lead Sweet Sassy Mo with 12. Worcester West enters the playoffs at 6-1 while Sweet Sassy Molassy will head in at 2-5.


D&E Painting 58, Blood Sweat and Beers 31


Despite the scoring of Mike Keefe (14 points) and Nick Brown (10 points). D&E Painting had too much firepower for the Blood Sweat and Beers crew. Max Masucci with 22 points lead a balanced attack for D&E that saw both flying Farrer brothers in double figures (Dave with 10, Chris with 11) and Shawn Atherton chip in 10 of his own. D&E Painting continues to be one of the most decorated franchises in the league and will enter the playoffs 6-1. BSB still had the second end of a double header to play...


Aggro Crags 64, Ham Sandies 54


With Larissa Oleynik looking on in the first row Neil Polucha and the Aggro Craggs held off a pesky Ham Sandies bunch. The story of this one was Brennan Bennett who scored 34 points and Greg Walker who added some inside balance with 14. A (very playoff eligible) Mike Perrault chopped in 11 in the victory. For the Ham Sandies Dan Main had 14, while Dan Bessa added 13 in the defeat. The Sandies end their season at 1-6 and will enter the playoffs. The Craggs still had another game to play...


Aggro Craggs 60, Blood Sweet and Beers 46


Bennett picked up where he left off in game 1 with 22 more points in the night cap as the Aggro Craggs busted it open early in the second half. Greg Walker had another 13 and Mike Perrault another 13 in the victory. Blood Sweat and Beers was lead by the interior play of Kevin Smith (12 points) and the shooting of Bob Chalmers (15 points, 2 technical fouls) who kept them in the game early. Blood Sweat and Beers will end up 1-6 and in the playoffs, while Aggro Craggs improve to 5-2 introducing a litany of tiebreakers.

Aggro Crags 52, Sweet Sassy Molassy 42

In the first game of a marathon day of basketball The Aggro Crags held off Sweet Sassy Molassy in a hard fought contest. The Aggro Crags jumped out to a 26-12 halftime lead behind the outside scoring of Mike Perrault (18 points) and flying Bennett brothers Brennan (13 points) and Tyler (12 points). Sweet Sassy Molassy was lead by Mike Mahoney with 13 points. and Jack Mahoney with 9. The Aggro Crags advance to 3-2 and will conclude their season with another double header next week. Sweet Sassy Molassy falls to 2-4 and will take on Worcester West.

Aggro Crags 67, Woolies 62

Behind 24 points from Brennen Bennett and 19 points from Greg Walker- the Aggro Crags held off a number of runs by the Woolies to post their second victory of the day. Tyler Bennett also tossed in 16 for the Crags in the victory. The Woolies were lead with 17 points from Joe Reidy and 15 from Brett Corey. Mike O'Leary added 14 in the loss. The Woolies will conclude their regular season next week with The Birdmen, while The Aggro Crags will play another twinbill.

Blazers 49, Sweet Sassy Molassy 48

Playing their second game of the day Sweet Sassy Molassy showed great fight with Jack Mahoney scoring 24 points and Mike Mahoney adding 13. The Blazers hung tight behind the outside scoring of Rob Elliot (15 points) and the thunderous rebound dunks of Zach Valliere (14 points). Trailing by 1 with 6 seconds to go The Blazers entrusted the ball to Mike Howe who dribbled the length of the floor before finding Valliere for a buzzer beating turn around jumper for the win. The Blazers advance to 5-1 and will tangle with Rusty Aries while Sweet Sassy Molassy will take on Worcester West.

BOHICA 74, Chargers 62

The Chargers behind the scoring of Doug Roberge (22 points) and Joe Regan (14 points) gave BOHICA all they could handle in a sweltering mid afternoon matchup at the Douglas Municipal Center. The Chargers however did not count on the scoring punch of Ryan Cain (35 points) and Mike Balderelli (22 points). Mitch Bajema also tossed in 10 to stem the tide of the Chargers barrage of 3's. BOHICA advances to 6-0 and will take on Team Ramrod next week- while The Chargers at 2-4 will take on FBGM.

Team Ramrod 77, 508 Athletics 73 (OT)

In a strong candidate for game of the year- Team Ramrod held on in overtime to town a pesky and undermanned 508 Athletics team. 508 was lead by the scoring punch of John Henault (29 points) and Andrew Dykstra (32 points) and the defensive scrappiness of Jon Wood and Andrew Calzone. Meanwhile Ramrod was lead by the sharp shooting of Bennett Knowlton (26 points) and the inside scoring of Dave Mack (14 points).  Ramrod (5=1) will take on BOHICA in their season finale next week.  While 508 Athletics will face Flying Rhino.

FBGM 60, Ham Sandies 26

FBGM ran their win streak to 2 straight with a commanding win in the 6 PM game. Dan Main paced the Ham Sandies in defeat with 14 points. FBGM was lead by the play of Mike Worrick (16 points) and Decarlo Anderson with 11 points. FBGM (2-4) will take on the Chargers next week in a game with huge seeding implications. The Sandies at 1-5 will take on The Aggro Crags.

Worcester West 68, Grizzlies 42

Dave Doullette's 17 points paced West Worcester in their matchup with The Grizzlies. Joe Laroche contributed 12 while Dan Laroche added 15 and Derek Johnson 13 in the a well balanced attack. For the Grizz Drew Dunn scored 12 early points while Sean Hanlon added 13, the Grizzlies were paced by Troy Lerner with 17 in his final game before departing for college. Worcester West runs their record to 5-1 and will take on Sweet Sassy Molassy next week while. The Grizzlies conclude their season at 1-6.

Birdmen 52, Rusty Aries 38

The Birdmen improved their record to 4-2 behind the scoring of Sam Fanfan (16 points) and Niko Bryant (8 points). Chase Milanese also chipped in 11 for the Birdmen. Rusty Aries was paced by Andrew Groth with 19 points and Dan Tessier with 9. Rusty Aries will play the Blazers next week while the Birdmen will play the Woolies.

Flying Rhino 61, Blood Sweat and Beers 46

Flying Rhino kept their undefeated season alive in the late game with a win over Blood Sweat and Beers. Flying Rhino was lead by Eddie Capstick with 21 points and John Genkos with 22 points and were helped on the boards by Andrew Punch. Blood Sweat and Beers were lead byt he inside scoring of Kevin Smith with 15 and the outside scoring of Mike Keefe (10 points) and Nick Brown (11 points). They will conclude their season with a twinbill next week while Flying Rhino will end up with 508 Athletics.

D&E Painting 46, Team Ramrod 45

The first game of the day was the game of the day. The D&E Painting backcourt of Max Masucci (17 points) and Corey Brunner (12 points) lead the way to a 46-45 victory. Team Ramrod was paced by Russ Braithwaite with 16 points and Cedric Kukamensah with 15 points. A last second three pointer for Team Ramrod rimmed out, vaulting them out of the ranks of the unbeaten. Team Ramrod will face 508 Athletics next week while D&E Painting will face YMCM.

FBGM 47, YMCM 41

In game of poorly thought out abbreviations. FBGM posted their first win behind the strong interior play of Decarlo Anderson. with 13 points. Matt Davis added 9 points and Jon Snediker chipped in 8. YMCM did their damndest to get into the win column behind the hot shooting of Matt Valianti (15 points) and Peter Judge (8 points). YMCM will take on D&E Painting next week. While FBGM will take on the Ham Sandies. 

508 Athletics 61, Ham Sandies 36

John Henault (22 points) lead the way for 508 Athletics as they ran their winning streak to 3 straight weeks. Matt Kneece provided the balance on the interior with 14 points as well as a number of blocks and rebounds. Tyler Frasca also dropped in 8 in the victory. The Ham Sandies were paced by Danny Main with 14 points and Dan Bessa with 8 points. The Sandies will return to acttion next week against FBGM in a game with huge seeding implications while 508 Athletics will take on Team Ramrod.

Blood Sweat and Beers 57, Grizzlies 48

Blood Sweat and Beers posted their first win of the season behind 23 points from Kevin Smith and 19 from Captain Mike Keefe. Sean Hanlon chipped in 13 for the Grizzlies in defeat while Scott Rhodes added 13 and Troy Lerner had 12. Blood Sweat and Beers will ride their 1 game winning streak into week 6 against Flying Rhino. While The Grizz will tangle with Worcester West. 

Worcester West 44, Rusty Aries 43

Worcester West got back in the win column in the 5 PM game behind the play of Dave Doulette (14 points) and Dan Laroche (12 points). Rusty Aries were lead by Andrew Groth (10 points and a number of boards) and Corey Gomes (11 points). Brian Whitten hit a few deep threes to keep them in the game. Rusty Aries would be undone in the final seconds however by 2 ill advised plays under 20 seconds- a rough turnover and a rushed heave by a non three point shooter. Rusty Aries will take on Birdmen next week. While Worcester West will face the Grizzlies.

Flying Rhino 49, Birdmen 45

Eddie Capstick (18 points) lead an undermanned cast to the victory over The Birdmen who were also short handed. Andrew Santana added 12 and Curtis Hickson added 13 in the victory. For the Birdmen Jay Snow lead the way with 10 points while Jeremy Bridge chipped in 9 in the defeat. The Flying Rhino will take on Blood Sweat and Beers next week. The Birdmen will face Rusty Aries.

Woolies 37, Sweet Sassy Molassy 22

Brett Corey had 15 points for the Woolies in their victory in the 7 PM game. Mike Mawdsley dropped 8 points for the victors. Sweet Sassy Molassy were paced by Jack Mahoney with 12 points. They will return to action in a twin bill next week with games against The Aggro Crags as well as a game with The Blazers. The Woolies will take on Aggro Craggs.

Blazers 55, Chargers 37

Rob Elliot's offensive explosion (28 points) lead the way for The Blazers. Nate Valliere tossed in 11 in the victory as well. Doug Roberge lead the Chargers offensive output with 14 points while Nick Burnett added 7. The Chargers will take on BOHICA next week while The Blazers will face Sweet Sassy Molassy.

BOHICA 54, Aggro Crags 36

Brennan Bennet scored 15 for the Craggs who hung tough early. Greg Walker also added 7 in defeat. BOHICA's balanced attacked was lead by Ryan Cain with 13 points and Mike Balderelli with 10. With solid play from Brian Vayda and Keenan Burke-Pitts as well. BOHICA improves to 5-0 and will face the Chargers next week. Aggro will face it's first of 2 double headers as it dances with Sweet Sassy Molassy and The Woolies

The Birdmen improved to 3-1 on the year with a commanding victory over Blood Sweat and Beers (0-3). Jay Snow (22 points) and the newly off the market Sam Fanfan (14 points) lead the way for the Birdmen who will return to action next week against Flyin' Rhino. Blood Sweat and Beers were lead by Mike Keefe with 12 points and Ben Petit with 8 and they will return to play next week against The Grizzlies.


Flying Rhino 55, Worcester West 46


Worcester West's 13 game winning streak was halted in the 2 PM game by the surging Flying Rhino squad. John Genkos (17 points) and Eddie Capstick (13 points) lead the way offensively while Emmanual Tarwoe and Alex Celluci provided solid pressure defense to run the Rhino's to 4-0.  Worcester West was lead by Dave Doulette with 17 points and Joe Laroche with 15. Congrats to Worcester West who won 13 straight heading into this game...one shy of a league record. BOHICA strung together 14 straight between the 08 and 09 seasons. Flying Rhino will face The Birdmen next week. While Worcester West will take on Rusty Aries.


Rusty Aries 68, Grizzlies 55


The strong 2 man punch of Andrew Groth (25 points) and Corey Gomes (27 points) carried the day for Rusty Aries as they run their record to 2-2. The Grizzlies were lead in defeat by Andrew Dunn with 19 points and Scott Rhodes with 12 points. The Grizzlies will face Blood Sweat and Beers next week, while Rusty Aries will tangle with Worcester West. 


Blazers 66, Woolies 62 (OT)


Game of the day without question. The Woolies bolstered by some new additions came out attacking and were lead by Ryan O'Leary (14 points) and Mike O'Leary (19 points), in addition to the flying O'Learys- Scott Elie posted 10 for the Woolies in defeat. The Blazers were lead by Jay McKinney who posted 21 points (all from outside) and Rob Elliot with 16. They were also given a boost by Sam Wilsey (10 points) who also for some reason brought a gaggle of 11 year old girls to the game. The Blazers improve to 3-1 and will tangle with The Chargers next week. While The Woolies fall to 0-4 and will face Sweet Sassy Molassy. 


Aggro Crags 52, Chargers 42


The Aggro Craggs post their first victory in league play with a 10 point win over the Chargers. Brennan Bennet lead the Craggs with 25 points and Greg Walker chipped in 14 in the victory. The Chargers were lead by Nick Burnett with 18 points in defeat. The Craggs are 1-1 and will take on BOHICA next week. The Chargers are 2-2 and will face The Blazers.


BOHICA 60, Sweet Sassy Molassy 40


Spurred on by the inside play of Armen Antramegian (11 points) and the slashing of Pat Makridakis (11 points) Sweet Sassy Molassy came out firing and lead halfway through the first half. BOHICA answered behind the offense of Justin Aldrich (23 points), Mike Balderelli 12 points and Joey McCann who tossed in 13. On the defensive end McCann made his presence felt with double digit blocked shots.  BOHICA advances to 4-0 and will play the Aggro Craggs next week. Sweet Sassy Molassy sits at 2-1 and will dance with The Woolies. 


508 Athletics 75, FBGM 46


Utilizing an all guard lineup. 508 Athletics scored early and often in running their record to 2-2. John Henault (20 points) and Andrew Dykstra (20 points) lead the way for 508. However, Tyler Frasca added 18 and Kevin Salvaggio added 9 in the victory. For FBGM Andrew Rosen had 16 points and Jon Snediker added 8. FBGM will take on YMCM next week in the 2 PM game. While 508 Athletics will take on the Ham Sandies. 


Team Ramrod 73, YMCM 35


Bennet Knowlton scored 23 and Dave Mack added 18 as Team Ramrod cruised to victory and a share of first place. George Tsougranis added 12 and Asher Plange 11 for Ramrod. YMCM was paced by Mike Sardonnini with 13 and Erich Slagel with 12. YMCM falls to 0-4 and will tangle with FBGM next week. While Team Ramrod will face D&E Painting. 


D&E Painting 74, Ham Sandies 45


The score was deadlocked at 28 at the half and this game had all the makings of a defensive struggle. However D&E Painting turned it on in the second half to the tune of 46-17 and a 74-45 victory. Dan Main lead the way for Ham Sandies with 19 points in defeat. D&E were paced by the inside play of Jason Beard (23 points) and Max Masucci with 15 mostly on drives to the rim. D&E will face Ramrod next week in a game with serious playoff implications while Ham Sandies will take on 508 Athletics.

Flying Rhino 67, Rusty Aries 53


Flying Rhino won their third straight with a victory over Rusty Aries. The Aries squad was lead by Andrew Groth with 18 and 21 from rookie sensation Corey Gomes.  Flying Rhino (whose roster expanded considerably as the game went on) was paced by John Genkos with 19 and Eddie Capstick with 17. They also got solid inside play from Ben Landers with 10 points. Rusty Aries will try to get back in the win column next week with The Grizzlies while Flying Rhino will face fellow undefeated Worcester West in an afternoon showdown. 


D&E Painting 55, FBGM 40


D&E Painting was paced by Max Masucci with 31 points as they cruised to victory over FBGM. Cory Brunner added 10 in the victory for D&E who were also aided by the play of Chris Farrer on the boards. FBGM were lead by rookie big man Decarlo Anderson with 18 points and the shooting of Matt Davis (12 points). D&E will look to continue their winning ways next week versus the Ham Sandies while FBGM will tangle with 508 Athletics. 


508 Athletics 69, YMCM 46


Despite a prodigious scoring outburst by Lou Bessa (28 points) YMCM fell to 508 Athletics in a game that was close for most of the first half. 508 was paced by the interior presence of Matt Kneece with 17 points, and balanced perimeter scoring including Tyler Frasca with 10, Phil Disignoria with 11 and Kevin Salvaggio with 10. 508 will take their (1-2) record into battle against FBGM on Sunday while YMCM will try to hang with Team Ramrod. 


Team Ramrod 72, Ham Sandies 50


Team Ramrod utilized the inside scoring of Dave Mack (24 points) and the outside scoring of Bennett Knowlton (22 points) and were spearheaded by the floor play of Dave White (11 points). The Sandies put up a good fight lead by Dan Bessa (20 points) and Justin McCann (18 points). Team Ramrod will face YMCM next week, while the Sandies will tussle with D&E Painting. 


Worcester West 67, Blood Sweat and Beers 49


The flying Laroche brothers (Joe with 17 and Dan with 14) lead the way for Worcester West in their victory versus BSB. Chris Foley Sr. added 12 points for Worcester West and is believed to become part of the first father-son combination to ever score double figures in league play. Dave Doulette chipped in 13 for WW. Ben Pettit lead BSB with 20 points and Mike Keefe added 11 in the defeat. Worcester West will take on Flying Rhino next week in a game with huge playoff seeding implications while Blood Sweat and Beers will face the Birdmen. 


Birdmen 79, Grizzlies 44


The good news for the Grizzlies was getting out to a 9-0 lead. The bad news was they were outscored 79-35 the rest of the way as the Birdmen found their offense in a big way. Sam Fanfan scored 32 in the victory as Jay Snow added 16 and Jeremy Bridge and Niko Bryant both dropped in 11. For the Griz Sean Hanlon lead the way with 16 points in the defeat. The Birdmen will face Blood Sweat and Beers next week while The Griz will take on Rusty Aries. 


BOHICA 78, Blazers 54


BOHICA is starting to round into form. They used a ridiculously balanced attack to defeat the Blazers in the marque game of the night. Joey McCann and Keenan Burke-Pitts had 17 each, while Brian Vayda added 14 and Mitch Bajema and Justin Aldrich tossed in 13 each as well. Even old "Long Sleeve" Leonelli chipped in from downtown. The Blazers were lead by Zach Valliefre with 18 points including a ridiculous put back dunk and Rob Elliot with 15. BOHICA will play Sweet Sassy Molassy next week The Blazers will dance with the Woolies in the battle of Jay McKinney's past and present team.


Chargers 49, Woolies 43


Doug Roberge had 26 in as the Chargers ground out a tough victory over the Woolies. The Woolies were paced by Brett Corey with 17 and Kyle Dean with 16 (and a huge contribution on the glass). The Woolies will return to action next week against the Blazers while The Chargers will face the Aggro Crags.

Andrew Groth (21 points) and Corey Gomes (16 points) lead the way for Rusty Aries in the 1 PM game as they held off newcomers Blood Sweat and Beers. Kevin Smith (7 points) and Anil Narwani (9 points) lead the way for Blood Sweat and Beers. Nick Brown added 7 in the defeat. Rusty Aries evens their record at 1-1 while BSB falls to 0-1. Rusty Aries will return to action against Flying Rhino next week, while BSB will face Worcester West.


Blazers 71. Aggro Crags 36


The Blazers raced to a 2-0 win behind the play of Zach Valliere (23 points) and Rob Elliot (19). Jay McKinney also added 14 in the victory. Brennan Bennett paced the Crags with 22 points and Zach Zidelis added 7 points in defeat. The Blazers will face BOHICA next week in a battle of  undefeated teams while the Aggro Crags will return to action against Sweet Sassy Molassy. 


BOHICA 64, Woolies 29


BOHICA added rookies Keenan Burke-Pitts (5 points and a number of assists) and Sam Herrick (12 points) to the mix in a balanced attack victory over the Woolies. Ryan Cain paced BOHICA with 18 points. The Woolies were lead by 10 from the always efficient Kyle Dean and move to 0-2 on the year. They will face The Chargers next week. BOHICA will host the Blazers. 


D&E Painting 58, 508 Athletics 52


The game of the day was a back and forth affair between D&E Painting and 508 Athletics. D&E were lead by the scoring of Max Masucci (23 points) and the play of rookie Jake Doucette (13 points), Doucette in particular made a lot of plays down the stretch to seal the victory. 508 Athletics got great production from rookie John Henault (19 points) and Tyler Frasca (15 points). D&E Painting (1-1) will take on FBGM next week, while 508 Athletics (0-2) will tangle with YMCM.

Team Ramrod lead by the interior play of Cedric Kuakumensah (20 points) and the backcourt duo of Bennett Knowlton (19 points) and David White (14 points) lead Team Ramrod to a hard fought victory in the 5 PM game. FBGM were paced by the scoring off Matt Davis (14 points) and Captain Jon Snediker with 14 points. Andrew Rosen also chipped in 10 in defeat. Ham Sandies 71, YMCM 38


Dan Main's 19 points lead the way for Ham Sandies in the expansions team's first victory. Justin McCann dropped in 14 while Dan Bessa also added 14 in the win. YMCM was paced by Mike Sardonini with 12 points. Erich Slagal added 9 points in the loss. YMCM falls to 0-2 and will face 508 Athletics next week. Ham Sandies improve to 1-1 and will take on Team Ramrod. 


Worcester West 61, Birdmen 42


Despite 13 points from Jay Snow and 12 points from Sam Fanfan the Birdmen fell to Worcester West in the 7 PM game. Worcester West lead by Dave Doulette 21 points and Derek Johnson 18 points in a decisive victory. Birdmen fall to 1-1 and will face the Grizzlies this week. Meanwhile Worcester West who avenged their only loss ever in this league this week will take on Blood Sweat and Beers. 


Sweet Sassy Molassy 41, Chargers 29


In a sloppy 8 PM affair Sweet Sassy Molassy held off The Chargers to run their record to 2-0. Kevin Van Slette (8 points), John Bertram (7 points) and Jack Mahoney (9 points) lead the charge for Molassy. While the Chargers were paced by Doug Roberge with 10 points. Sweet Sassy will play the Aggro Crags next week while Chagers will face the Woolies. 


Flying Rhino 86, Grizzlies 53


Flying Rhino came out hot and stayed that way in their victory over The Grizz. Eddie Capstick (19 points) and John Genkos (13 points) lead the way with newcomer Ryan Turbide adding 12 points in the decisive victory. The Grizzlies were paced by Ian Strom with 17 points and the outside shooting of Troy Learner with 7 points. The Flying Rhino will return to action next week against the Rusty Aries while Grizzly nation will take on The Birdmen. 


Players of the Week:


Dave Doulette, Worcester West. Doulette paced Worcester West with 21 points in a victory over The Birdmen. His mid range and 3 point contributions helped open the gap in the second half.


Andrew Groth, Rusty Aries. 21 points in a hard fought victory. Groth utilized a series of strong takes and jumpshots, and rebounded in victory.

Flying Rhino 68, Ham Sandies 25


Opening Day in the BVBL and the new season was kicked off in the freshly minted 1PM game. John Genkos (13 points) and his Flying Rhino squad started hot and stayed that way as Eddie Capstick (19 points) and Emmanual Tarwoe (8 points) paced a balanced effort. The expansion Ham Sandies lead by league veteran Dan Main (12 points) were simply outgunned in this early season matchup. The Sandies will return to action next week against YMCM while Flying Rhino will face the Grizzlies. 


Chargers 40, YMCM 20


Two expansion teams met in the 2 PM game as YMCM took on The Chargers. Two early dunks by Nick Burnett (10 points) got the Chargers out and running and Doug Roberge (15 points) and some stifling D kept them in charge. YMCM got some life from Mike Sardonini (8 points) but overall there was too much Charger offense on this day. The Chargers will face Sweet Sassy Mollassy next week while YMCM will face The Ham Sandies. 


Team Ramrod 59, Rusty Aries 56


The early favorite for Game of the Day. The always scrappy Rusty Aries took a commanding early lead behind Josh Dunton (11 points) and rookie Corey Gomes (18 points) but Team Ramrod lead by Russ Braithwaite (21 points) and Bennett Knowlton (17 points) came storming back. Down the stretch two Braitwaite free throws gave them a lead, while 2 Dalton Judd free throws (his only 2 points of the day) iced it for Ramrod. Ramrod will return to action next week against FBGM while the Rusty Aries will tangle with "Webster".


Blazers 59, FBGM 51


Expansion FBGM acquitted themselves well in week 1 as Luke Brownell (20 points) and league veteran Jon Snediker (18 points) kept them in the game.  However the Blazers lead by big man Nate Valliere (20 points) hung right with them. Giant threes down the stretch by Rob Elliot (14 points) and free agent acquisition Jay McKinney (12 points) gave them a lead they would not relinquish. The Blazers will face the Aggro Crags next week while FBGM will face Team Ramrod. 


Birdmen 39, 508 Athletics 29


Wearing the greatest shirts in league history 508 Athletics hung in with the always tough Birdmen (artists formerly known as Banner Bar). Tyler Frasca (8 points) and the inside play of Matt Kneece kept 508 in the game. However a balanced Birdmen attack of Sam Fanfan (9 points) Chase Milanese (7 second half points) and lockdown defense lead to a W for the Birdmen. 508 Athletics will return to action next week against D&E Painting while The Birdmen will tangle with Worcester West. 


Worcester West 68, Woolies 34


The Champs return Worcester West posts their 11th straight win dating back to last season as they stave off Kyle Dean (14 points) and the disguised Woolies. Worcester West was lead by the outside shooting of Dave Doulette (17 points), the inside out attack of Dan Laroche (21 points) and  the length and athleticism of Derek Johnson (14 points). They will return to action next week against the Birdmen, while The Woolies will do battle with BOHICA.


BOHICA 62, D&E Painting 52


Max Massuci (18 points) and Corey Brunner (16 points) lead the way from outside for the D&E Painting squad and they took a lead into the half. However bolstered by Mike Balderelli (17 points) veteren Joey McCann (15 points) BOHICA drew even in the early stages of the second half. The story however was rookie Ryan Cain who left in the first half with a nasty gash on his head. Returning to action to score 17 points in the second half (21 total) on a way to a 10 point victory. D&E will return to action next week against 508 Athletics while BOHICA will tussle with the Woolies. 


Sweet Sassy Molassy 79, Grizzlies 48


The Flying Mahoney Brothers (Jack 19, Mike 18 points) lead the way for Sweet Sassy Molassy in a commanding week one victory. The Griz were paced by Drew Dunn and his 17 points and some  sharp shooting from Chris Tognacci. Molassy also got production from Kevin Vanslette 15 points and Andrew Horan who chipped in 9. However the play of the day and maybe the season belonged to Armen Antranigian who let a 3 quarter court shot fly at the buzzer at the end of the first half that banked through to effectivley end any suspense in regards to whose night this way. Antranigian turned in 11 points of his own. Sweet Sassy Molassy will return to action next week against The Chargers while The Griz will tangle with Flying Rhino.

Champions Crowned!

Worcester West 56, D&E Painting 33

Worcester West ascends the mountain. What started in early June with 14 teams has ended in late August with 1. Worcester West etched their name into BVBL folklore by taking down their first Championship in their first year of existence. When asked for a post game quote soft spoken Shawn Garreau replied "...".

Worcester West started on a 9-0 run and really never looked back. As many shots as D&E buried from outside last week- they could never really find their stroke on this one and had trouble with the relentless transition game of Worcester West. Dave Doulette scored in volume early on pull ups and mid range stuff he would end with 13 and a playoffs MVP Award. Joe Laroche (finals MVP) paced Worcester West with 15.

The score at the half was 27-10 Worcester West. D&E tried to make a run early in the second half to stem the tide but when Joe Laroche caught and flushed an ally oop in transition with about 12 minutes to go the writing was on the wall. Corey Brunner paced D&E with 10 points while Derek Johnson (13) and Dan Laroche (13) pulled their weight for the Worcester West team. Congrats to the champs who did not lose since week 1.

We will see you all next summer as the BVBL returns for it's fourth year. A thank you to the all the captains and players who made the league run smoothly this year, a special thanks to Bob Saster and the Douglas Municipal Center for giving us a rain site- and thanks to Andrew Calzone for his assistance in the week to week running of the league. Ding dong the champs are dead! D&E Painting controlled the glass and shot the ball well from outside and took down BOHICA in the first semifinals. Congrats to BOHICA on their 2 year run of terror but D & E was not worried about history. Max Masucci had 17 mostly going to the basket and Cory Brunner paced D & E with 18 almost entirely from behind the arc. Mike Balderelli had a heroic performance for BOHICA scorring 28 of their 56 points and Justin Aldrich added 14 in the loss. D & E advances to Sunday's finals at 6 PM.

Worcester West 67, Woolies 61 (Double OT)

Maybe the best game in the history of the league. No exageration. The Woolies came out hot and got a lot of offense from Mike O'Learly ( 23) and Tim Swenson (18) and took as large as an 8 point lead early in the second half. Worcester West (winners of 8 straight would not be detered as Dave Doulette (18) lead the way. The Woolies were close to putting the game away in regulation but an intense Worcester West press got them back in the game and a few free throws from Mike Consolmango forced OT. In the first OT Ryan O'Leary made some plays for the Woolies but Derek Johnson hit a huge bucket and a second overtime was necessary. Finally Consolmango (playing in his final game before a NBA internship) made a hesitation move and got all the way to the rim before getting fouled that gave Worcester West the points it would need to get to the finals. Woolies finish a great season in the semis and have come a long way (from the days of having 4 guys including a random asian kid who wasn't on the roster)

Notes:

The North Will Rise Again...Three of the remaining four teams call the North Division home. The North's 2,3,4 seeds all find their way to the semis while D&E Painting finished 4th in the South.

Old School...Three of the final four teams are original franchises in the BVBL's proud 3 year history. BOHICA has a lot of the same roster that took the final 2 titles. Whereas D&E Painting only has 2 players left from it's run to the finals in 2008. The Woolies (although they played under the name "The Pregamers" last year are also in their third year.

New Kids On The Block...Worcester West is a true expansion team. Brand new to the league and none of their players have played in the league before. They currently sport the league's best record.

We're Going Streaking...Worcester West are the winners of 8 straight after opening their season with a loss. BOHICA are winners of 7 straight, after losing to Worcester West in week 2.

Bow To Your Sensei...Three players still alive in the final 4 (Joe Laroche and Dave Doulette from Worcester West and Mike O'Leary from the Woolies) play basketball at Worcester State where one of their coaches is none other than BOHICA guard Mitch Bajema

Last of the BOHICAns...Scott Felper, Brian Vayda, Jordan Vander Baan, Anthony Leonelli, Joe McCann and Justin Aldrich are the current members of the BOHICA roster to have played for both championship teams.

Young Man's Game...Max Massucci of D&E Painting is the youngest player still alive in the tournament. He is entering his senior year of High School he is averaging 21.5 in the playoffs so looks like he's up to it.

Bye Bye Bye...Both teams that earned the bye week with their play were knocked out in their first playoff game. Banner Bar fell to D&E Painting while 508 Athletics was on the wrong side of the Woolies.

Defense Wins Championships...Only two members of the first team All League team are active in the final 4 (Joe Laroche from Worcester West and Joey McCann from BOHICA), however three members of the All Defensive Team are active (McCann, Brian Vayda from BOHICA and Kyle Dean from the Woolies)

Don't Finish Second...The last 2 years have seen the team that lost in the title game the year before bow out in the first round of the playoffs. In 2009 D&E Painting lost in the first round to 508 Orange, while this year Rusty Aries fell to the Woolies.

BOHICA, riding the broad shoulders of Brian Vayda (21 points) returned to the semifinals with a 19 point victory over the Blazers. The Blazers were paced in defeat by John Young with 12, Chad Gosselin with 12 and Rob Elliot with 8 and bow out in the quarters in their first year of existance. BOHICA was lead by Vayda but Joey McCann added 15 and Justin Aldrich and Mitch Bajema were the driving factors in the backcourt, playing super unselfish. Jordan Vander Baan gave BOHICA great minutes off the bench particular on the glass.

Max Massucci was top gun for D&E with 27 points but Will Jonassen and Sean Atherton in particular carried D&E on the board. Banner would make their run behind Fanfan and Mike Geoffrey (8 points) but Massucci and Jonassen (10 points) would answer as D&E returns to the semis for the 2nd time in 3 years!

Rob Scarpato had 23 points in a losing effort and was aided by Dan Main with 7 but the Woolies utilized a fast break attack and good ball movement to pull away behind the play of Mike O'Leary 19, Andy Maxwell (11) and Tim Swenson (10). Brett Corey added a few big buckets and Ryan O'Leary played well defensivley in the W.

A game much closer than the final indicated. Canoe Club shot the hell out of the ball early and on a few runs but there was too much Dave Mack (16 points) and big plays from Ed Capstick (11 points). Canoe got a vintage performance from Jack Mahoney with 17 and a huge lift from Bob Chalmers (8 points). Canoe Club end the year at 2-6 and as one of the classiest teams in the league. Agent Zero is through to the quarters.

It was a game for a half as Justin McCann (19) and Joey Mespelli (15) lead The Warriors. In the second half Worcester West turned it on behind Derek Johnson (24 points) and Mike Consolmango (18 points) Worcester West enters the playoffs as the 2 seed in the North, Warriors as the 7th.

Blazers 63, Rusty Aries 51

Greg Walker (21 points) and Mike Perrault (16) were not enough as the Blazers shot the lights out on the way to a W and a 2 Seed (with tiebreakers Rusty Aries falls all the way to a 5 seed). TJ Dolliver (15 points) and John Young (15) lead the Blazers into the playoffs.

Red Raiders 58, Millennium Realty 44

Tyler Frasca turned in 19 for Millennium. However, the combination of Nick Burnett (19 points) and Doug Roberge (20 points) pushed the Red Raiders into the win column and locked them up the 6 seed. Millennium will ride it out as the 7 seed.

508 Athletics 54, Agent Zero 47 (OT)

A crazy game with a ton of lead changes. A Jon Snediker 3 and a Dan Main floater at the horn sent the game into OT where another Snediker 3 was the tipping point in the win for 508 who locks up the 1 seed. Dave Mack had 14 for the 508 crew while Danny Main lead 508 with 20 points including the buzzer beater.

Player of the Week: Danny Main, 5o8 Athletics, 20 points and an OT forcing buzzer beater should be enough in a abbreviated week.

Will Jonahsen lead the way for D&E with 24 points will Chris Farrer dropped in 16 and Corey Brunner 14 in a game that wasn't close. Brandon Bishop lead the way for Millennium with 9 points. D&E concludes their season at 4-3 while Millennium Realty has one more game next week.

Rusty Aries 78, Agent Zero 49

Depleted is not even the word to use for the Agent Zero team that rolled into town yesterday. However Ben Landers paced them with 29 points. Rusty Aries was clicking on all cylinders and got great production out of Mike Perrault (21 points), Greg Walker (18 points), Billy Monaco (12 points), Bri Whitten (11 points) and Jon Himmitou (10 points). Both Agent Zero and Rusty Aries will conclude their regular seasons next week with big divisional matchups.

Blazers 36, Red Raiders 31

The Raiders put up a fight behind Bob Chipman's 12 points and Nick Burnett's 12 points but the Blazers held on late thanks to the steady play of Rob Elliot (14 points) both of these teams will conclude their seasons Sunday with games with huge seeding implications.

BOHICA 67, Canoe Club 51

BOHICA opened up a 3 point halftime lead in the early moments in the second half and came up with a victory, concluding their season at 6-1. Joey McCann lead the way with 18 points while Anthony Leonelli chipped in 12, and Mitch Renshaw had 10. For Canoe Jack Mahoney held top honors with 15 while Steve Dellarover (12) and Pat Makridakis (10) were also in double figures. Canoe Club concludes the season at 2-5 but will be a tough out in the playoffs.

Worcester West 75, Yellowjackets 53

Worcester West is riding the league's longest winning streak and kept it rolling against the Jackets. Joe Laroche had 25 in the win, while Chris Foley added 20 and Dan Laroche had 11. Ben Cavicci lead the way for the 'Jackets with 16 while mystery man Danny Suarez added 10. Yellowjackets conclude their regular season while Worcester West will finish theirs on Sunday.

Banner Bar 52, Woolies 43

Sam Fanfan had 26 points and Eve St Cyr dialed long distance twice early to set the tone as the Banner opened up a lead in the second half. The Woolies hung tough behind Chase Milanese (14 points) and Tim Swenson (12 points) Both teams conclude their regular seasons.

In a game that was closer than the score indicated. The Warriors hung in for about 28 minutes before the lack of a bench caught up with them. Justin McCann had 12 in the defeat while Darren Moore added 10. For 508 Rob Scarpato had 19 and Kevin Salvaggio added 12 and Nate Smithson 11. Both teams will conclude their seasons next week.

Player of the Week: Will Jonhasen. D&E Painting. In a week without a lot of good games his performance stood out for his ability to score it (24 points) and his energy on the glass and defensive end.

Worcester West 43, Canoe Club 34

In a hot and sticky affair The Canoe Club gave Worcester West all they could handle but could not get over the hump. Worcester West was lead by Joe Laroche with 15 and Chris Foley with 8. Kellen Zalneritis again was big down the stretch from the stripe. For Canoe Club Matt Pineau (finally healthy) had 10 and Mike Mahoney added 9.

Woolies 52, Warriors 47

Ryan O'Leary (13), Chase Milanese (11) and Brett Corey (11) lead the way for the Woolies as they posted the W. The Warriors had their best outing of the year lead by Joey Mespelli with 19 and Justin McCann with 12.

BOHICA 52, Banner Bar 38

Utilizing balance and team basketball BOHICA carried an early 6 point lead into the second half and extended. The balanced attack was lead by Scotty Felper with 10 points all in the first half, Joey McCann with 14, and Brian Vayda with 10. Jordan Vander Baan paced the team on the glass. For Banner Bar Jay Snow had 17 and Mike Geoffrey chipped in 9. This makes a 3 way tie in first place with a few games remaining.

Agent Zero 61, D&E Painting 44

Facing a depleted D&E squad Agent Zero finished strong with a 17 point win. Eddie Capstick had 17 for the Zero squad while John Genkos turned in 16. Ben Landers added an inside presence with 11 points and a number of rebounds. Corey Brunner shot his way to 17 for the D&E team in defeat. Ben Jonasen added 9 points and was all over the glass.

508 Athletics 56, Red Raiders 50

A very close game. Red Raiders lead by Doug Roberge with 18 and Nick Burnett with 10 gave 508 everything they could handle. 508 was lead by Danny Main with 20 points and Rob Scarpato with 16. They also got a few big buckets from John Snediker.

Blazers 63, Millennium Realty 46

Rob Elliot had 15, and Mike Howe 10 as the Blazers used an early second half run to open up the game for the victory. For Millennium it was the Andrew and Tyler show as Andrew Dykstra poured in a game high 20 points and Tyler Frasca went for 15 (all from 3) in the loss.

Rusty Aries 64, Yellowjackets 45

Twin Towers time for the Rusty Aries as Greg Walker with 15 and Jon Himmitou with 12 lead the way in a rather easy victory. Evan Prince looking more healthy in every outing had 20 for the 'jackets.

Player of the Week: Danny Main 508 Athletics. Made every big shot his team needed in a close win. Money from the line down the stretch.

Blazers 50, 508 Athletics 43

The Blazers got themselves back in the win column behind a balanced attack lead by TJ Dolliver with 15 points and Drew Smithson with 10. They got stops down the stretch when they needed to. 508 Athletics was lead by Rob Scarpato (22 points, 1 MONSTER and one dunk) and also got 10 from Nate Smithson.

Banner Bar 83, Warriors 52

Sam Fanfan had 30 points and Mike Geoffrey added 15 in the Banner Bar's 5th consecutive win. The Banner used a 18-2 run halfway through the first half to put the game into the win column. For the Warriors Jutsin McCann had 20 and Nate Bertrand threw in 11 in the defeat.

D&E Painting 49, Red Raiders 24

Cory Brunner's 11 points lead the way and was supplemented by Mike Fennel's 10 points as D&E Painting posted another win over The Red Raiders. For the Raiders Doug Roberge lead the way with 7 while Kevin Vanslette contributed with some crafty Euro looking up and unders.

Rusty Aries 69, Millennium Realty 46

Brian Whitten's hot shooting continues as he lead the Rusty Aries squad with 23 points. Greg Walker added 21 and Mike Perrualt 13 as the Aries cruised over a depleted Millennium team. Andrew Dykstra had 24 in the loss and was joined on the scoresheet by Armen Antramegian's 9.

Canoe Club 41, Woolies 32

Balanced attack was the name of the game for the Canoe Club as Mike Mahoney had 12, Tom Bowzer had 12 and Pat Makridakis had 12 in their victory over the Canoe Club. Tim Swenson had 17 for the Woolies in a sloppy affair.

BOHICA 75, Yellowjackets 44

Welcome back Scotty Felper! Fresh off what was initially thought to be a season ending injury Scott Felper dropped 13 in his return. He was assited by Joey McCann (18 points), Brian Vayda (15 points) and rookie sensation Mitch Renshaw (14 points) as BOHICA rolled in the 8 PM game. Ben Cavicci lead the 'jackets with 9 points and Evan Prince made his triumphant return to the Yellowjackets!

Worcester West 51, Agent Zero 47

Game of the night. Back and forth, lots of energy. Worcester West prevails behind the 18 points from Joe Laroche, 12 from Derek Johnson and 4 huge free throws from Kellen Zalneritis down the stretch. Agent Zero was paced by Eddie Capstick with 14 points and John Genkos with 13.

Player of The Week: TJ Dolliver, Blazers. The 15 point performance may not jump out at you, but if you saw the game you know that every time they needed a play, offense, defense or on the glass Dolliver made it.

Despite 18 from Brett Corey and 16 from Mike O'Leary the shorthanded Woolies fell to Worcester West. Worcester was lead by Dave Doulette with with 24 and Joe Laroche with 21

BOHICA 80, Warriors 53

The Warriors were paced by Joey Mespelli's 11 and Craig Miklavic's 13 but Joey McCann dropped 27 including a fierce dunk in the BOHICA blowout victory.

Yellowjackets 42, Canoe Club 41 (OT)

Old time Eastern Conference basketball! Jack Mahoney had 18 for the Club and Steve Dellarovere's 3 ball put the game into OT but there was too much Ben Cavicci. He had 20 and made every big play the Jackets needed to get in the win column.

Agent Zer0 49, Red Raiders 40

Rookie Dave Mack had 17 and John Genkos tossed in 15 for the still undefeated Agent Zero. Doug Roberge and Kevin Van Slette paced the Raiders with 10 and 12 respectively.

508 Athletics 54, Millennium Realty 41

Rob Scarpato did it inside (18 points) and Jon Snediker outside (12 points) as the 508 Squad coasted. Andrew Dykstra (8 points) and Tim Sundane (15) lead the way for the Real Estate team.

D&E Painting 56, Rusty Aries 52

D&E playing without leading scorer Max Massuci held on to beat the Rusty Aries 56-52. Corey Brunner shot the lights out going for 21 and Chris Farrer added 16 in the victory. For the Aries Bri Whitten (20) and Mike Perrault (13) kept them in the game.

Banner Bar 42, Blazers 41

Tight game, Jay Snow had 13 in the victory for the Banner while Chad Gosselin (12) and TJ Dolliver paced The Blazers.

Player of The Week: Ben Cavicci Yellowjackets scored almost half his team's points in a hard fought overtime win.

Sam Fanfan had what has become to be expected as his normal day with 25 and he was backed up by Mike Geofrey with 9 Jeremy Bridge with 8 and Tyler Hopkins with 10. The Yellowjackets got 14 from Davis Saltmarsh, 12 from Jose Rubio and 10 from Chris Householder to make it a game. They will face Canoe Club next week. Banner Bar remains undefeated and will take on The Blazers next week.

BOHICA 65, Woolies 61

Joe "The Show" McCann lead 5 BOHICAns in double figures with 18. Brian Vayrda tossed in 13 while Mike Balderelli, Justin Aldrich and Mitch Bajema all had 10 in the victory. The Woolies would not go away lead by an offensive explosion from Mike O'Leary (26 points) and his cousin Ryan O'Leary with 18. The Woolies will take on Worcester West next week, while BOHICA will square up with The Warriors.

D&E Painting 56, Canoe Club 51

Old fasioned rock fight in this one. Canoe Club had a chance to tie with 6 seconds left but a Steve Dellarovere three went at least halfway down before popping out and giving the Painters a chance to ice it with free throws. Max Masucci had 28 in the win, while Anthony Barry chipped in with 17. Canoe Club was paced by Tommy Bowzer with 13, Jack Mahoney with 12 and Pat Makridakis with 12. The Club will take on the Yellowjackets next week while D&E will return to divisional play with Rusty Aries

Player of the Week: Max Masucci, D&E Painting. He has been over 25 in all 3 of their games but finally got them in the winners circle today with 28 of his teams 56 points...that's half kids.

Yellowjackets 63, Warriors 56

The Warriors are starting to get their leagues under them as Nate Bertrand tossed in 10 and Justin McCann added 8 but there was simply too much Davis Saltmarsh for them to deal with. Saltmarsh had 21 to pace the Jackets and was joined by Ben Caviccilli who threw in 16 in the victory. The Yellowjackets improve to 1-1 and will face the Banner Bar next week. Warriors fall to 0-2 and will take on Worcester West.

Worcester West 55, BOHICA 51

Worcester West posts their first win in league play with a solid team victory over BOHICA. Derek Johnson had 15 for WW and Joe Laroche and Dave Doulette added 10 a piece. Worcester West did a great job holding BOHICA to only 16 points in the second half. BOHICA was paced by veterans Joey McCann with 18 and Brian Vayda with 17. Worcester West improves to 1-1 while BOHICA falls to 1-1. They will both return to action next week BOHICA versus the Woolies and Worcester West versus the Warriors.

Banner Bar 46, Canoe Club 43

In a great back and forth affair Banner Bar outlasted Canoe Club 46-43. Sam Fanfan again was scoring in bunches leading the Banner with 24 (16 in the first half). Banner Bar also got some big plays from Tyler Hopkins in the second half. Canoe Club was lead by Alex Hayes with 10 and Jack Mahoney with 10 and will return to action next week against D&E Painting. The Banner will back at it facing the Yellowjackets in a divisional contest.

508 Athletics 62, Rusty Aries 52,

In a game that was not as close as the score indicated 508 Athletics lead early and held on late. 508 was paced by Rob Scarpato's 18 points and Dan Main's 16, but received huge contributions h from Ryan Bunce, Jon Wood, Kevin Salvaggio and Bob Chalmers. Rusty Aries to their credit kept playing and following a ridiculous 3 point performance by Mike Perrault (13 points) and Raheem Lewis (20 points) down the stretch they made a game of it. Rusty Aries should be noted suffered their first regular season loss in their year plus in the league. They will face the Blazers next week. 508 Athletics will face the also undefeated Agent Zero.

Agent Zero 66, Millennium Realty 52

Behind John Genkos' 26 points and Ben Landers 17, Agent Zero improved to 2-0 in league play. Millennium Realty had Timmy Sundan lead the way with 17 points and were paced on the boards by Mike Rivera. They will face fellow 0-2 squad Red Raiders next week, while Agent Zero will have the battle of the undefeateds with 508 Athletics.

Blazers 55, D & E Painting 54 (OT)

Two weeks, two heartbreakers in OT for D & E Painting. D&E jumped out to a 26-20 halftime lead behind lockdown defense the scoring of Max Masucci (30 points on the night). The Blazers rallied in the second half behind Chad Gosselin (10 points) and Rob Elliot (25 points). Will Jonassen was a beast on the boards for the D&E Squad who are probably the best 0-2 team in the history of the league. They will face Canoe Club next week. Blazers improve to 1-1 and will face Rusty Aries next week.

Woolies 57, Red Raiders 45

The Raiders came out with a new look offense behind the scoring of Doug Roberge (13 points) and Nick Burnett (11 points including a transition jam) but there was too much Woolie on this night as Mike O'Leary lead the way with 20 points and Kyle Dean and Andy Maxwell each chipped in 10 in the Woolie victory. The Woolies will face longtime nemesis BOHICA on Sunday, while the Red Raiders will face Millennium Realty.

Player of the Week: Rob Elliot Blazers, Went for 25 in a OT win his team really needed and did it hurt. Player of the week material no doubt.

Agent Zero 56, Blazers 47

Welcome to the league Agent Zero! The new squad showed up for the opener and went to work. Eddie Capstick and John Genkos lead the way with 16 a piece. In a game that was nip and tuck throughout. John Young and Rob Elliot had 13 each in the defeat for The Blazers. The Agent Zero boys will be back at it next week against Milleninum Realty while The Blazers will square off with divisional rival D & E Painting.

BOHICA 67, Millennium Realty 43

The defending champs picked up where they left off cruising to victory in the second game of the day. Old standbys Brian Vayda (10 points) and Joey McCann (18 points) lead the way and were joined by rookie sensation Mike Balderelli who dropped 19 in his debut. For the Realtors Andrew Dykstra had 26 and had one of the best offensive games of the day. They will be buoyed by the addition of a few players in the next couple of weeks. Millennium will take on Agent Zero next week while BOHICA will square up with Worcester West.

Banner Bar 60, Worcester West 57

Great game by crafty veterans Banner Bar and upstart newcomers Worcester West. Sam Fanfan welcomed himself back to league play with 28 points in the Banner's tight victory. John Dietel added 8 for the Banner. Derek Johnson had 13 for Worcester West in a losing effort and Dave Doulette chipped in 12. Worcester West will face BOHICA next week, Banner Bar will take on Canoe Club

Woolies 46, Yellowjackets 32

The new look Woolies opened it up in the second half and started the year 1-0. Tim Swenson paced the woolies with 13 who got 8 from Mike O'Leary and 7 from Brett Corey in the win. The Jackets were paced by Davis Saltmarsh 8 and Ben Caviccili with 8. It should be noted the Yellowjackets were without their captain Evan Prince. Woolies will face the Red Raiders next week, Yellowjackets will take on The Warriors in the early game.

508 Athletics 70, D & E Painting 68 OT

The game of the night! 508 Athletics outlasted the new look D & E squad in overtime on the back on Danny Main (28 points) and Rob Scarpato (18 points). D&E got a tremendous performance from Max Masucci who dropped 29 points in a variety of ways and Corey Brunner who had 17. Jason Beard paced them inside with 16. 508 will take on Rusty Aries next week while D&E will take on the Blazers.

Canoe Club 69, Warriors 47

It was The Ghosts of Nipmuc Past versus the Ghosts of Nipmuc Present. Past had more on this night as Jack Mahoney (Nipmuc '03) had 28 points and his brother Mike (Nipmuc '05) had 17. Alex Hayes (Nipmuc '03) added 13 for the Canoe Club. For the young bucks Joey Mespelli had 11, Justin McCann had 9 and Darren Moore had 8. Warriors will face the Yellowjackets next week and Canoe Club will square off with The Banner Bar.

Rusty Aries 82, Red Raiders 44

Last year's finalists The Rusty Aries reloaded and made a statement in game 1. Rookie Mike Perrault had 17, rookie Jon Himottu had 15 and returner Raheem Lewis had 16. As for The Raiders Justin Randall had 15 points (5 threes) and Andrew Vanslette added 14. The Raiders will take on The Woolies next week. The Rusty Aries will face up with 508 Athletics.

Co-Players of the Week: Sam Fanfan Banner Bar and Dan Main 508 Athletics, Fanfan had 28 in his teams tight victory while Main made play after play on his way to 28 in 508 Athletics' overtime victory.
