So without further ado...your inaugural BVBL Hall of Fame Class. The Class of '14:
Dave Farrer, Player
D&E Painting 08-10, DJF Painting 12, Madmen 13-Present
Dave Farrer debuted in the league's debut season as the go to guy for D&E Painting. He was tabbed as the league's first MVP in 2008. The league didn't keep scoring totals back then but it is without question he was among the lead's leading scorers. Other than missing a season with injury Dave has been a staple of the BVBL. His versatile scoring game, shutdown defense and athleticism have long made him one of the league's toughest matchups. Other honors for Dave include: First Team All League in 08 and 09. First Team All Defense in 13. He has been named the league's Player of the Week twice. He was the league's first MVP in 2008. The league's first true star. Dave Farrer.
Joey McCann, Player
BOHICA 08-Present
Never spectacular but always a winner. Joe McCann has been one of the stars of the league since it's inception. He is tied for the longest tenure with his current team (with teammate Anthony Leonelli) and is the most decorated player in league history. Among his accolades are the following: First Team All League in 2013, 2011 and 2010. First Team All Defense in 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2010. Third Team All League in 2008, The League's Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 and 2011. The playoff MVP in 2008 and 2009. A two time player of the week- Joe has played on three championship teams in 2008, 2009 and 2012. Always a gentleman and a willing to guard any position on the floor. A first ballot Hall of Famer. Joey McCann.
Sam Fanfan, Player
Banner Bar 09-10, Birdmen 11-Present
One of the most dynamic scorers in the league's history. Sam Fanfan burst onto the scene in the 2009 season winning the Rookie of the Year Award. His ability to score in a variety of ways and relentless approach has made him a feared player since his first days in the league. His array of awards is impressive. He has been All League every year he has been in the league. First Team in 09, 10, and 13. Second Team in 11 and 12. He was the league's MVP in 2010, and he has been the league's player of the week an astounding SEVEN times. Also he lead the Birdmen to the 2011 league championship. A colorful character who more than backs up his talk with hardware. A first ballot Hall of Famer. Sam Fanfan.
Rob Elliot, Player/Captain
Player: Flint Tropics 08, 508 (Orange) 09, Captain/Player: Blazers 10-Present
Rob Elliot is a fixture- plain and simple. He is the league's ALL TIME leader in games played. After starring as a player in his first couple of year's in the league he formed The Blazers in 2010 and have built them into one of the league's most consistent programs. The Blazers are (22-15) in the last 4 years consistently playing in the league's top division. He has always added excellent pieces to his nucleus of hometown talent. Let's not forget his accomplishments as a player. He was named First Team All League in 2012. As well as being named to the 2nd team in 2008 and 2011. He was named the League Captain of the Year in 2012 and has been the player of the week 3 times. His contributions as a player, captain and citizen have helped build and grow the league. A first ballot Hall of Famer. Rob Elliot.
Nate Bandstra, Contributor 2008-Present
There would be no league without officials and since the league's inception Nate Bandstra has scheduled those officials. In addition to being the assignor for the league he works a full slate of games every summer. Being a referee in a men's league is a thankless job- you take a ton of abuse (sometimes warranted) and you don't get paid all that much. That being Nate's sense of humor and organizational acumen have made the league run smoothly for the last 6 years. One of the true contributors to our great program- first ballot Hall of Famer- Nate Bandstra.
