BVBL Champions

BO-THREE-CA
(1) BOHICA 60, (14) Leftover Lasagna 49, BOHICA brings it home for their third title in as many years. Leftover Lasagna's Miracle in Mendon falls short. Leftover Lasagna has been among the best teams in the league the last 3 years, this year after a regular season marred by attendance issues they turned it on in the playoffs and reached their first finals. Utilizing their usual tough D and rebounding they kept it very close early- and made a furious run late, but in the beginning moments of the second half BOHICA reminded the league that you have to beat the champ if you want to be the champ with their patented avalanche.

Sam Longwell (17), Ryan Sheehan (15) and Ryan Cain (13) shouldered the offensive load, and old standby Joey McCann added 7 early to get BOHICA off and running.

Leftover's Eric Guglielmello lead all scorers with 19. "Guges plays harder than anyone in the league" said BOHICA Captain Anthony Leonelli, "you cannot prepare for as hard as he plays and you know he's just going to keep coming." Leftover also got 12 from Dom Mastascusta.

BOHICA claims the league's first ever 3peat. This is also their 6th title in the last 9 years (2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2009, 2008). Joe McCann and Anthony Leonelli have been a part of 6 titles. Ryan Cain 4, Ryan Flynn 3, Eddie Capstick 3, Derek Retos 3, Ryan Sheehan 3, Zack Valliere 2, Sam Longwell 2, and Denis Tobin (not pictured) 1.

BOHICA has not lost since Week 2 of 2014. Running their streak to 31 straight games.

Sam Longwell won the Harambe Award as the Finals MVP. He was also named the playoff MVP.

Playoff Results 8/21
(14) Leftover Lasagna 73, (2) Put Some Respek 60
Leftover Lasagna kept up their torrid playoff run and advanced to their first final in their 3rd year in the league. Eric Guglielmello had 22 points, while Dom Mastascusta had 15 and Matt Labove (18 points) dominated the interior. Put Some Respek finished an excellent season with 16 from Tyler Delory and 14 from Cory Pryor.

(1) BOHICA 58, (5) Youngbloodz 56
BOHICA never lead... until East MVP Ryan Flynn buried a buzzer beating pull up as time expired to send BOHICA to their 8th championship game in 9 years. It was all Youngbloodz early as Ian Converse (20) and Dan Main (11) lead the scoring charge. BOHICA was further setback when emotional leader Anthony Leonelli was ejected by an overmatched rookie official. Youngbloodz took the league into the half +10 and looked like they were bound for their 3rd straight finals appearance. But Sam Longwell (14), Ryan Sheehan (13) and Zack Valliere (10) helped chip away and as time expired Ryan Flynn scored the most important of his 12 points.

Player of the week:

Eric Guglielmello, Leftover Lasagna, 22 points at the rim and from beyond the arc leads Leftover to the promised land.

Flint Michigan Mega Bowl Result:

BOHICA had a solid second half and pulled away from a scrappy Washed Up team. Ryan Cain had a turn back the clock performance with 21 while Zack Valliere added 20. Doug Roberge lead Washed Up with 15.

(5) Youngbloodz 63, (13) 508 Athletics 52
508 Athletics kept fighting in the quarters but midnight struck for Cinderella as Ian Converse (21) and Jeremy Bacon (14) punched the Youngbloodz ticket back to the semis for the 3rd straight year. Arch Mitchell had 16 in defeat for 508.

(14) Leftover Lasagna 84, (11) Heat Check 72
Heat Check lead by 8 at the half after the deep shooting of Daquan Antoine (18) and the all around offensive play of Bilal Shakir (23) got them going but the Leftover interior tandem of Matt Labove (21) and Dom Mastascusta (20) and the tireles play of Eric Guglielmello (10) punched Leftover a return ticket to the semi finals.

(2) Put Some Respek 85, (7) Airpot Video 77
Nate Stitchell (21) and Tyler Hundley (12) kept Airport in it, but Put Some Respek continued their excellent season with a strong second half. Cory Pryor (18) and Tyler Delory (20) lead the charge as Respek advances to the semis.

(5) Youngbloodz 116, (12) Danny's Variety 72
The BVBL single game scoring record held at 54 for exactly a week until Ian Converse got ahold of it in the 2 PM game with a 64 point outburst. Ridiculously efficient as well. Youngbloodz cruised, Dan Main added 23 and a self appointed 30+ assists, and Derek Moore had 17. Danny's got 31 from Bobby Perrette and 22 from Brent Crayton.

(11) Heat Check 74, (6) Senior Spartans 60
Daquon Antoine had 30 and Bilal Shakir kicked in 13 to do with Cory Matthews 19 as Heat Check overcome a sizable halftime deficit to advance to the quarters. Brennan Bennett had 28 in the loss for the Senior Spartans who made their mark in their first season in the league. Cory Gomes added 10.

(2) Put Some Respek 62, (15) Madmen 57
The Madmen put up a great fight behind the offense of Jason Beard (16) and Pat Luckett (12) but Respek pulled away late behind the athleticism of Kyle McKissick (15) and the scoring of Tyler Delory (21). They advance to the quarters.

(7) Airport Video 93, (10) H1 and1 58
Liam Pickett and Bryan Nunez had 20 each, and Zach Sweet added 13 as Airport Video utilized a balanced attack to advance to the quarters. Sam Duralova had 31 in defeat for H1 and1.

(1) BOHICA 91, (16) Suns 48
Sam Longwell (23), Zach Valliere (18) and Ryan Cain (18) were the catalysts as BOHICA advanced to the quarters. The Suns got 14 from Mike Curran in the loss.

Playoff Finals

Seeding:
With 3 divisions we decided to go with a power seeding format. Basically a team got a point for a win over a Central Team, 1.5 points for a win over a West and 2.0 for a win over an East. In situations where teams had the same amount of points head to head was the first breaker, then strength of schedule. Leftover lost their tiebreaker by virtue of having a forfeit which makes you automatically lose all tiebreakers.

Bracket holds. Remember we will move teams up and down for next year based on performance. Also remember we voted on this at the league meeting, show up if you don't like it.

2016 Hall of Fame Class

To be eligible for the BVBL Hall of Fame you must have played at least 5 seasons. Other categories include Contributors and Captains. Active players CAN be considered.

Ryan Cain, Player
BOHICA (2011-Preset)
One of the finest all around players in the history of the BVBL Ryan Cain joined BOHICA in 2011 and immediately became one of the most feared scorers on the circuit. His award haul is impressive. From being the League MVP and Playoff MVP in 2012, to being 2nd team All League in 2011, 2013 and 2014. Most importantly he was a member and integral part of the 2012, 2014 and 2015 league champions, often single handedly willing his team to playoff wins. In his first year of eligibility: Ryan Cain.

Jay Snow, Player
Banner Bar/Birdmen (2010-Present)
Often lost in the shuffle of the successful Birdmen franchise is Jay Snow...but how clutch is he? He's three times been named the league's player of the week and twice that has come in the playoffs. Snow is good in the regular season but in the playoffs he is one of the most clutch players in the league's history...think Robert Horry. His accolades are impressive (2nd team All League in 2015 and 2013 and Fourth Team in 2011 (when there were no divisions). A crafty scorer with big time range- Snow was a key member of the 2011 Champion Birdmen squad.
