LEFTOVER LASAGNA PREVAILS

HOUSE!
LEFTOVER LASAGNA ARE 2017 BVBL CHAMPS

In their 4th year in existence Leftover claims their first title. Alex Bradley finals MVP. Guges wins Playoff MVP.

Leftover Lasagna 62, Youngbloodz 55
A game befitting of a championship game pitted 2 of the Titans of the BVBL- The Youngbloodz got off to a hot start and lead by 5 at the half behind the outside shooting of Mark Devries who ended up with 18- 15 in the first half- all from downtown.

In the second the Leftover squad chipped away with Matt Labove (19) anchoring the interior, and Alex Bradley (17) burying 3s to keep them in the game.

Leftover's use of a 1-3-1 zone, rare by men's league standards, helped stifle the Youngbloodz offense, although Dan Main did manage 14 in defeat, while Ian Converse kicked in 11.

Youngbloodz still left late when playoff MVP Eric Guglielmello made huge play after huge play down the stretch to lift Leftover in the lead and eventually after some free throws to the championship...

"Leftover Lasagna lives for Sundays" an ebullient Guges stated...continuing "I'm glad we could join a special group of teams as BVBL Champions. Had to beat a couple of tough teams to do it, and we wouldn't have it any other way. House!"

He wasn't wrong about their path, in the quarters they dodged a bullet as 508 Athletics shot rimmed out, in the semis they beat 3 time defending champion BOHICA- then downed longtime nemesis The Youngbloodz to reach the promised land.

The Youngbloodz run should not get lost in the shuffle here, they have been to the finals 3 of the last years, Captain Derek Moore compared his squad to the Buffalo Bills of the 90s, but they are young enough and talented enough, something tells me they'll be back this way again.

Once again on behalf of the league, thanks to all the teams for making the 10th season our best yet.

A great game in the nightcap as 508 Athletics stormed back from a 10 point deficit under 2 minutes and a great look at the buzzer that went begging. Leftover was lead by their floor general Eric Guglielmello with 17 and Dom Mastascusta with 20. Bobby Perrette had 23 for 508, but it was Will Michalski (10) who buried back to back 3s late to bring 508 to the edge of an upset. Great game.
